Position SummaryThe Outreach and Retention Specialist manages the Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development’s strategic marketing and communications operations; develop and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies to support the Division’s mission, vision, and programs. Responsible for coordinating the schedule development process, web content, email, social media, video, publicity and advertising, and community events in partnership with our marketing office and adhering to marketing standards. This position serves as the Division’s liaison to the college’s Marketing Department.


The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Flexibility is required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership in developing, coordinating and implementing efficient processes and procedures for CWD enrollment.
  • Liaisons and maintains close relationship with College Marketing and ensures Continuing Education needs are met and that programs are branded consistently and meet college branding guidelines.
  • Determines measurable marketing goals and objectives; identify target audiences; oversee the design of promotional campaigns utilizing effective media mixes in conjunction with college-wide public relations and marketing program; manage campaigns in conjunction with external vendors; oversee the execution of plans and evaluate.
  • Stay abreast of new marketing and communications practices, technologies, and advancements and provide leadership in implementing new practices or modifying existing practices that can benefit the Division.
  • Serve as the managing editor of Continuing Education’s quarterly schedule of classes and supervises the development and production of all Continuing Education publications and printed material including writing, design and production – publications and printed material range from banners to booklets. Ensures consistency, customer focus, and ease of use.
  • Serves as the Content Manager of CWD information on our CSM website. Provides guidance and direction on the development of new web content created for Continuing Education programs in partnership with CSM’s webteam. Draft new web copy as needed. Manage and update all existing Continuing Education webpages. Serve as the primary approver of all Continuing Education web updates and supervise maintenance of Continuing Education course listings online. Work with webteam for search engine optimization for CWD programs.
  • Develop social media content to increase awareness of CWD program offerings to include regular posting on Division social media channels as well as provide recommended content to the CSM Marketing and Public Relations for main CSM social media channels.
  • Creates opinionated, stylish postings for blogging, Facebook postings, Twitter tweets, as well as other online engagement. Responsible for driving engagement across social media platforms and blogging content.
  • Assist with writing press releases
  • Conducts telephone conversations and sends e-mail communication to students, replying to issues or answering inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Handles complaints from dissatisfied students or clients and ensures complaints are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner to optimize overall customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinates and networks with appropriate community agencies and/or activities.
  • Works with Admissions to assure CWD is represented at visits. Updates presentations and marketing material as needed.
  • Promotes and assure an environment that is welcoming and conducive for students from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Additional Duties:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, liberal arts, or related field.
  • Five years of professional-level experience Minimum Qualifications and Standards RequiredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Strong skills using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Evidence of success in planning, developing, and delivering continuing education and programs.

    Physical Requirements:

    The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
