The College of New Jersey (www.tcnj.edu) invites applications for the position, Project Manager of Design and Construction. This position is within the Operations Division.

The Office of Design & Construction oversees the design and construction phases of new construction, major and minor renovation, and asset renewal projects. Projects include, but are not limited to, architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, structural, information technology, and civil/site work.

This position is responsible for confirming and managing the project scope, budget and schedule from project inception through project close-out while maintaining the involvement and expectations of the client and stakeholders (including but not limited to Information Technology, Facilities, Energy Management, Environmental Services, and Media Services). The Project Manager serves as the primary liaison between the consultants and contractors and the college and will simultaneously manage multiple projects in various phase. This position will manage primarily projects funded by asset renewal, but may manage other projects as needed.

The Project Manager will build and support a culture of communication and develop a collaborative team, including client representatives, stakeholder, consultants, vendors, contractors; and other internal and external parties as needed. In addition, they will keep the team informed and involved at every phase of the project and obtain team input on any changes to program, schedule or budget. They will coordinate utility shut-downs and construction activities with the schedule of campus activities and events.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Computer literacy in a Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Project, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build consensus among various campus constituents in a collaborative environment.
  • Extensive experience in design and construction administration.
  • Understanding of State procurement laws and TCNJ procurement rules.
  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, laws, regulations, and TCNJ Standards.
Required Education and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor degree in architecture, engineering, construction management or directly related field. May be able to substitute with 15 years of experience.
  • Experience managing consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment
  • Minimum five years of applicable experience, preferably in a higher education setting with direct involvement with facilities planning, design and construction.
