The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a full-time Research Associate position. 

Nature of Work:

  • This position is part of an exciting research program to understand the molecular mechanisms of brain tumor biology. The laboratory uses cellular and mouse models to recapitulate the human disease, with an emphasis on epigenetics in medulloblastoma. We are looking for a PhD scientist who is interested in studying use of in vitro generated ILCs to study secondary lymphoid tissue development and graft versus host disease in NSG mice. As well as the the role of transcription factors, including GATA3 in ILCs differentiation from CD34+4 HSCs. Knowledge of developing and utilizing of human CAR T cells/NK cells for immunotherapy.

Position Emphasis:

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Cell isolation and culture of cells. 15%
  • Microscopy and multicolor flow cytometry. 15%
  • Protein purifications. 10%
  • Immunoassays (ELISA, western blot, CBA, immunofluorescence (IHC)). 15%
  • Molecular techniques (cloning, gene editing (Cas-9 and shRNA), nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription, RT-PCR, sequencing including single cell RNAseq.). 10%
  • Animal assays, bacteria, and virus culture. 10%
  • Independently performed lab experiments. 10%
  • Collection and analysis of all data. 5%
  • Synthesis of data presenting data at lab meetings, reviewing literature relevant to project and writing of manuscript. 5%
  • Maintain accurate and current laboratory notebook including all experimental details. 5%
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable. 

Salary and Benefits: 

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $55,000 to $63,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

    Graduation from an accredited university with a Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) in Cancer Biology, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology
  • Minimum of 4 years of CAR T cells/NK cells lab experience
  • Demonstrates the proficiency in computer software, equipment operation, or research technical skills
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to successfully pass a 10-panel drug test
  • Must be willing and able to successfully pass a national criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ color flow cytometry experience
  • Previous experience in presenting and/or aiding in publications
  • Competency with Flowjo, Microsoft office, Prism Graphpad, and analysis software(s) in Immunohistochemistry

  • Ability to stay organized under pressure
  • Knowledgeable of professional laboratory protocols
  • Ability to complete lab functions involving cell culture and aseptic techniques
  • Competency with molecular biology techniques
  • Excellent communication skills in English
