Nature of Work

The Schwartz-Yang lab is looking for a Clinical Database Manager that can assist in the storage, management and data export of important clinical, genetic, and genomic research data.  The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for working with the clinical research coordinators on all aspects of clinical and study databases for recruitment, data organization, and storage (e.g. REDCap), while lending expertise to the implementation of new solutions.  The Clinical Database Manager will be an integral part of various and diverse research projects and clinical studies.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Help gatekeep the input of data while working closely with clinical research and laboratory staff ensure good practices and quality-controlled data
  • Utilize SQL, Excel, and other database tools to report and summarize data to be used for analyses, grants, and other data reporting. 
  • Develop and maintain REDCap databases
  • Assimilate and work across different database platforms (e.g. BC platforms and FreezerPro)
  • Leverage existing computation resources to automate and improve data input and reporting
  • Work with a diverse group of clinicians, researchers, coordinators and other collaborators for ad-hoc data requests
  • Participates in team discussion between vendors (sales, technical, and project management teams) and database users for database improvement, implementation, and troubleshooting
  • Data entry, as needed, to help maintain completeness of database
  • Periodic data-checks to ensure data quality and integrity

The Clinical Database Manager reports to the Principal Investigator, Joyce Lee.

The Clinical Database Manager will not supervise other employees.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $36,000 to $60,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, or related degree
  • Experience:
  • Experience and proficiency writing SQL queries (minimum 1 year)
  • Experience and proficiency working with databases, including REDCap (minimum 1 year)
  • Experience and proficiency working in Excel (minimum 1 year)
  • Special Skills: N/A
  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working in a research lab
    • Experience configuring and improving large databases
    • Advanced SQL knowledge
    • Knowledge of programming languages such as R, Unix shell, Python, REST APIs, or other related languages
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:

    • Must be detail oriented and organized
    • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish a variety of complicated tasks
    • Can learn new programming languages, libraries, techniques, APIs as needed
    • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations
    • Ability to maintain effective communication with investigators, coordinators and other stakeholders
    • Comfortable working autonomously, and from home, when COVID-19 campus restrictions are in place
