Nature of Work

The University of Colorado Cancer Center and Center for Health Artificial Intelligence seek a Training and Education Coordinator to organize, coordinate, and provide training and education opportunities in data intensive science and research at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Nearly every field of biomedical research now requires quantitative or computational skills. The Anschutz Medical Campus has adapted through a set of bespoke educational, training, and mentoring efforts that augment more traditional graduate and postgraduate training opportunities. The purpose of the Training and Education Coordinator position is to increase the value of existing training efforts through coordination and to identify opportunities and resources for new training efforts. In addition, the Training and Education Coordinator will conduct training sessions that fall into the Coordinator’s expertise. The Coordinator will act as the “educational multiplier” of the efforts of the newly established Center for Health AI and the Cancer Center Associate Director for Informatics and Data Science. The expected outcome is a more transparent landscape of training that meets the needs of the learner where he/she is and challenges learners at all career levels. The Coordinator will partner with academic programs and Center for Health AI faculty to realize new sources of funding through grants, philanthropy, and innovation. Our ideal candidate has experience with various training methods and environments, including on-the-job coaching and “office-hours”, mentorship programs and e-learning. The Coordinator will actively promote the values of diversity and inclusivity across the education and training portfolio.

  • Organize training offerings across the Anschutz Medical Campus to reach multiple types of learners, levels of expertise, and educational goals
  • Partner with academic programs to realize new sources of funding through grants, philanthropy, and innovation
  • Actively collect and organize data science training and education opportunities available to Anschutz Campus community into an electronic catalog
  • Maintain a calendar of data science training and education offerings
  • Interface with existing training and analytical resources (CIDA, shared resources, library, Cancer Center, etc.) to identify and fill gaps and leverage existing campus capabilities
  • Help design and develop training programs and educational workshops (outsourced and/or in-house)
  • Where appropriate, cooperate with training grant awardees (R25, T32, etc) in integrating participants as both teachers and learners
  • Publicize available training to employees and provide necessary information about sessions
  • Apply and promote known and established education principles and stay up-to-date on new training methods and techniques
  • Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and KPIs
  • Gather feedback from trainers and trainees after each educational session (where appropriate)
  • Partner with stakeholder departments, divisions, and centers to establish learning communities of practice
  • Organize and host train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts and potential instructors
  • Research and recommend new training methods or resources
  • Monitor training resource usage, such as licensed software, scholarship funds, etc.
  • Advocate for the training and education needs of faculty, trainees, and staff
  • Engender a culture of inclusivity and diversity driven by metrics to meet organizational values
Supervision Received

The Training and Education Coordinator will report to Dr. Sean Davis and will collaborate with the Cancer Center and the Center for Health Artificial Intelligence faculty and staff in achieving the goals of building a scalable, effective training program on the Anschutz campus.

Supervision Exercised

The Training and Education Coordinator will have the opportunity to mentor and train other employees in partnership with their respective academic supervisors. In addition, the Training and Education Coordinator will supervise additional training and education staff as the training and education grows.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) has been established at:

Instructor- $80,000-$105,000

Senior Instructor- $105,000-$125,000 

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications 

Instructor

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in biomedical research, informatics, or data science-related field
  • Experience with training in biomedical research environments
Senior Instructor

  • Doctoral degree in biomedical research, informatics, or data science-related field
  • Four years of work experience as a Training Coordinator, Trainer, Training Facilitator, Educational Support, or similar role
  • Experience with training in biomedical research environments
  • One year experience with electronic/remote delivery of training
Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Strong communication skills
  • Success in building a training and education program
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:

  • Domain knowledge of bioinformatics, data science, analytics
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Communication skills to convey complex, technical topics clearly to multiple audiences.
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and web delivery tools
  • Proven ability to complete full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, deliver, monitor and evaluate)
