Job Description

Texas A&M University-San Antonio is seeking a highly motivated, hardworking and professional Development Grant Writer to assist with in acquiring ancillary financial support from external entities and individuals by researching funding opportunities, writing and preparing proposals, developing grant opportunities for the University and assisting with project evaluation. Applicants should have documented success in grant writing (writing first drafts, editing, proofreading, responding to reviewer critiques, etc.), establishing timelines and deliverables, and collaborative projects.

This is a grant-funded position. Grant funded positions are time-limited and are contingent upon sufficient grant funding.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Researches potential funding sources including, public, private, state, federal, and corporate organizations that fit with institutional need and priorities subscriptions, books, workshops, personal contacts, etc.

  • Researches eligibility criteria of potential grant opportunities.

  • Discusses grant possibilities with the Vice President and appropriate department managers. Works to develop annual priorities and plans for grant projects.

  • Works with the departmental and interdisciplinary project grant coordinators to develop the basic outline for proposals.

  • Writes grants and proposals. Edits and prepares the final package for submission.

  • Assists with project budget.

  • Assists and participates in Development Office activities, programs and projects particularly those that document and develop resource materials for development proposals.

  • Assists with monitoring funded activities.

  • Assists with maintenance of files and records system on project applications, awards, reports and supporting documents.

  • Assists with submission of required reports, including interim and final report as appropriate.

  • Assists and with maintaining records and documentation to ensure compliance with grant oversight or regulatory requirements.

  • Assists in monitoring fiscal and in-kind matching commitments for proposals.

  • Prepares an annual summary of grant activities building to monthly reports as the program matures.

  • Develops an internal calendar of funding deadlines.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.

  • Two years of experience in organizing and coordinating a grant initiative program.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior successful record of submitting Federal Grants.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven success in writing for publication in print, web, and other platforms.

  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and oral communication skills with proven ability to present, write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to understand materials of moderate complexity and synthesize across multiple sources to produce materials for diverse audiences.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to change voice and writing style to fit a particular audience and purpose.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadlines.
