Department Summary:

The Department of Rehabilitation Health Services is housed in the College of Health and Public Service at the University of North Texas. The department’s mission is to prepare professionals to enhance the lives of diverse populations including the aging population, individuals with disabilities, substance use disorders and/or chronic health concerns through training in advanced research, education and service delivery, or clinical practice. Our department is comprised of community engaged academics providing an education that reaches beyond the classroom. Faculty with expertise in applied gerontology, health services, rehabilitation counseling, substance use, and behavioral health concerns prepare students for a career making a positive change in the lives of others. Alumni of our programs become researchers, educators, administrators, and clinicians.

Position Summary:

The Department of Rehabilitation and Health Services in the College of Health and Public Service seeks an outstanding and energetic full-time faculty member with expertise in the field of rehabilitation counseling or related counseling specialties for a one-year appointment at the rank of Lecturer, starting August 2021. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate level courses in rehabilitation studies such as rehabilitation assessment, counseling, employment and career development, and addiction and disability studies, with the potential to teach graduate level courses. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to engage in high-quality and innovative instruction in both traditional and non-traditional formats; serve as appropriate on department, college, and university committees as well as participate in professional organizations; and demonstrate a commitment to working in an inclusive environment with students from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Candidates must have a doctoral degree in a field that supports the mission of the counseling education program. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by July 1, 2021;
•Demonstrated commitment to accessibility and excellence in teaching, and service that supports equity and inclusion for all in the academic community;
•Evidence of experience with instructional technology (instructional software, learning management systems such as Canvas) and ability to teach in traditional and non-traditional formats and settings (on-campus, off-campus, evenings, online);
•Experience supervising, mentoring, and teaching students in undergraduate and graduate rehabilitation education programs;
•Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, or eligibility to become certified or licensed.
