Job Description:

The Child Protection Team in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking candidates for a Registered Nurse Telemedicine, which functions as a member of a multidisciplinary team (headquartered in Like City, Florida). This position provides direct nursing services to children suspected of child abuse and/or neglect using telemedicine and digital equipment. This position is required to travel daily to outlying counties to perform Child Protection Team (CPT) services. Position requires license as a registered nurse, excellent understanding of child development, and ability to make independent judgements including in critical situations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct clinical service via telemedicine technology to children suspected of being abused or neglected at multiple remote sites to assist the MD/APRN in visualizing injuries through the use of telemedicine equipment and peripheral cameras. A complete nursing assessment is done during the exam and documented.
  • Assist medical staff as needed with general medical duties, including but not limited to chaperoning, ordering and tracking medical supplies, laboratory result follow up and screening of Child Safety Assessments. Work closely with the information technology staff on the team and at the state level to troubleshoot problems related to computers, cameras and equipment related to telemedicine.

  • Completes assessments and sends reports to the protective investigators within the timeframes consistent with the program requirements and best practice. Maintains client records consistent with program requirements.

  • Represent the Child Protection Team and the Telehealth program to agencies involved with the Child Protection Team and provide ongoing in-service regarding telemedicine and child abuse. Additional duties falling under this category include working with other telemedicine RNs in the state to update the nursing assessment document and to offer guidance to others attempting to set up a telemedicine program.

  • Must travel to multiple sites for service delivery several times weekly. Valid license required. Court testimony may be required within scope of position.

Expected Salary:

$24.60 to $27.00 per hour commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program. Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes. Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the qualifications listed below:

  • At least two (2) years of experience working Pediatrics.
  • Familiar with the Florida Child Welfare system.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills needed in order to deal with children and families in crisis.
  • Proven ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Position will require:

  • Completing on the job training located in Gainesville (Alachua County), Beverly Hills (Citrus) and Brooksville (Hernando).
  • Twenty (20) hours continuing education per year during employment.
  • Daily travel to outlying clinics to perform CPT services.

Normal work schedule will be Monday through Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m. with flexibility for some extended hours as required to meet patient needs.
