Job Description

Performs a variety of technical research and laboratory tasks in one or more scientific areas.
*Focuses on completing work effectively, efficiently, and in a timely fashion
*Understands how own assigned duties relate to others in the team and how the team integrates with others
*May assist staff, faculty, students and/or general public with the basic operation of equipment and/or with production activities
*Uses existing procedures to solve routine problems and perform a range/variety of tasks/activities
*Recognizes and solves typical problems that can occur in own work area without supervisory approval; evaluates and selects solutions from established options
*Provides recommendations to supervisor as needed and/or requested
*Impacts the quality of own work
*Communicates basic technical information with team members
*Provides information to and exchanges information with appropriate and/or various parties

Essential Functions: Aid in writing regulatory documents for clinical research including: IRB protocols, human subjects’ forms, and IND applications. Screen potential research subjects based on research criteria; ship samples to clinical laboratory. Schedule research subject visit appointments and coordinate with the Clinical Research Center. Clinical data collection: Measure anthropometrics, process blood and tissue samples. Record research data and manage databases. Assist in research diet preparation. Perform laboratory biochemical analyses to measure the concentrations of metabolites and hormones in human samples (e.g., insulin, glucose, fatty acids, triglycerides).

Supervision Received: Supervision will be received from clinical and laboratory.

Supervision Exercised: Provide supervision of the undergraduate research assistants in the laboratory. Verify their hours of work. Teach them basic laboratory skills and provide feedback to the staff regarding the student's progress in acquiring lab skills.


Salary: $11.54 to $19.76 per hour

Grade: GGS-005

Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; however, schedule may need to be altered depending upon needs of the lab which may include evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
