The academic services professional will support the two-year Civics Initiative passed by the University of Colorado Board of Regents in February of 2020. The nature of work is to track students’ preparation in civics via high school transcripts of newly enrolled students and student civics participation in courses and activities at UCCS. This is a part-time position with a 30 hour(.75 FTE) time commitment.Who We Are:The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is one of four campuses in the University of Colorado system and is home to over 9,500 undergraduate and 1,900 graduate students.Colorado Springs (pop. 450K+) is situated at the base of Pikes Peak, offers many recreational and cultural activities and was recently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top Best Places to Live in the U.S. Job Duties:The part-time Civics Academic Professional provides data and research support specifically for the Civics Initiative of the University of Colorado Board of Regents. The primary responsibilities assigned to this position are twofold: track students’ preparation in civics via high school transcripts and participation in civics during their academic careers at UCCS.Primary responsibilities include evaluation of high school transcripts to ascertain civics preparation and the recording of that information in a database that can be integrated with our student information system (PeopleSoft Campus Solutions) and/or Central Information Warehouse. Responsibilities include the collecting and reporting of student participation details in regent-approved civics initiatives at UCCS and analyzing passing rates in civics courses, AP exams, and IB exams. The work may include evaluation of course syllabi and student life activities and recording the information. The professional should be familiar with qualitative methods and survey research as well as statistical sampling and data analysis.Additional responsibilities include warehouse querying and reporting to support the initiative; website updates; written and oral reports to diverse internal and external audiences; service on committees; and ad-hoc support for units in Academic Affairs or Student Affairs.The Analyst will abide by the Code of Ethics as published by the Association for Institutional Research (AIR) and abide by the guidelines set forth in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Job Competencies:Maintains confidentiality and the highest of ethical standardsUses qualitative, quantitative, and survey research skills Uses a variety of software to collect, query, document, and manage data Writes quarterly summary reports for stakeholdersEstablishes and maintains effective and collaborative working relationships with individuals from diverse backgroundsCommunicates effectively in both verbal & written formsMaintains a collegial attitude Detail oriented, conscientious, and meticulous Takes initiative and can work independently while seeking appropriate assistance and guidanceThis position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).What We Offer:Salary Range: Generally starting at $23,527 - $30,357The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.The University of Colorado offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, retirement, paid vacation and time off, and a tuition benefit. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learningTwo years experience working in public higher education or secondary education Preferred Qualifications:Proficiency using Excel, SPSS, SAS, Cognos, PeopleSoft (or similar equivalent software) Experience working with student records, transcripts, admissions policies, and FERPA Familiarity with assessment of student life activities Knowledge of course development and learning assessment Experience conducting qualitative and/or survey research Knowledge of statistical sampling (e.g., to select transcripts to evaluate) Knowledge of data warehousing and database management Excellent oral and written communication skills Familiarity with CU System and UCCS organizational structure Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
