Position Summary:

The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for a category three Research Professional position. We seek a highly motivated individual with an interest in working with children with cerebral palsy. The position will be a yearly appointment with reevaluation after each year. The position is supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health. We will be working with a variety of collaborators on this project, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Primary responsibilities include data collection and analysis for a randomized controlled trial examining the effect of a daily vibration treatment on muscle development, physical activity and balance in children with cerebral palsy.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

The Research Professional will perform a broad range of collection, analysis, and technical duties that facilitate the success of the project. Testing will involve magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry, muscle strength assessment, electromyography, balance assessment, physical activity monitoring, blood analysis and other health related assessments. Data analysis and coding experience is necessary.

Mainly office work. Sit for long periods of time and use a computer. Lift at least 30 lbs. Assist in lifting children.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Data collection and analysis which will involve working with the research coordinator and other research assistants. Data collection may take place after 5 pm weekdays and on the weekends. Data analysis will involve matlab coding experience

Preparation of manuscripts and presentations stemming from research and data collection during controlled trials, examining the effect of a daily vibration treatment on muscle development, physical activity and balance in children with cerebral palsy.
