The Junior Systems Administrator in the Technology Infrastructure Department of the Division of Information Technology Services is responsible for assisting with setting up and maintaining Windows, Linux, VMware systems, storage, and associated components. Duties performed in conjunction with Systems Administrators include installing, configuring, and updating hardware and software; establishing and maintaining user accounts; assisting backup and recovery tasks; monitoring and implementing security controls; creating and maintaining documentation; and adhering to organizational policies and procedures.Responsibilities Collaborating with Systems Administrators
- Develop and document systems administration standard operating procedures.Manage accounts, access, and authentication to systems and equipment.Participate in planning, execution, and validation of data redundancy and backup/recovery systems.Act as tier 3 support, working directly with tier 2 support and end-users.Install, update, and troubleshoot systems and servers.Monitor system hardware availability, functionality, and health.Conduct periodic system maintenance, organization, and cleaning (physical and electronic).Comply with CSU and USG systems administration standard operating procedures.Manage system and server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.Monitor and maintain system, server, and virtualization environment configurations.Install, implement, configure, and support system components.
- Demonstrated progress toward a four-year degree in Computer Science or Information Technology.Minimum of two years experience in a help desk environment with experience troubleshooting and maintaining desktops or laptops and customer service.Experience in Microsoft Windows and/or Linux operating systems.Experience working with Office 365.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, or equivalent experience.Working knowledge of Windows or Linux server operating systems.Knowledge of Office 365 and Active Directory management.Understanding of networking principles, IP theory, and subnetting.Experience managing an enterprise datacenter.Knowledge of storage systems such as NAS or SAN.Virtualization experience.Experience working with command line such as Bash, MacOS Terminal, or Powershell.
