Organizational Unit Overview:

The East Carolina University, School of Medicine, Pediatric Outpatient Clinic provides outpatient medical care for children from birth to age 21. The clinic staff assists clients in obtaining diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic illnesses as well as provides nursing care. Staff provides health education and access to information to enhance client health and to prevent illness. Staff provides for client comfort and safety while endeavoring to be as cost effective to keep medical costs down. The Pediatric Clinics are a service component of the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. These clinics are involved in the treatment of patients as a function of the training and education of medical students, physicians and allied health personnel in primary medical care on a regional consultative basis for eastern North Carolina.

Job Duties :

The primary purpose of this position is to provide support for the Ambulatory Pediatric clinics.
This position is a highly versatile position and the occupant will have to perform a variety of administrative, office support duties, and basic patient care tasks. This individual will be a critical member of the nursing administrative team and will have to function with the highest degree of independence and minimum direction. This position will provide dual roles of administrative support and assist with providing direct patient care duties as a Nursing Assistant II. Administrative duties may include, but are not limited to, completion of medical forms, letters of medical necessity, therapy recertifications, home health orders preparation of documents and reports, use of office technology, compiling records, organizing and maintaining files, assembling forms/faxes and mail that comes in that requires review and physician’s signature, telephone responsibilities, and other clerical duties as assigned. The Nursing Assistant II responsibilities of this position may, but are not limited to, nursing support, technical assistance, assisting physicians with some procedures, the activities of maintaining a safe environment, and other nursing duties as assigned. The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners daily to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. Additionally, this position has a strong customer service component working with internal and external customers. Excellent customer service is important for this role as it relates to speaking with external and internal customers to convey or exchange information from an administrative perspective. The person in this position has to have basic knowledge of medical terminology and the office or work unit policies and procedures in order to communicate information.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires registration as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Six months of pediatric related nursing assistant experience is preferred. In addition, experience in a medical office administrative setting, with one year of medical/clinical experience. Previous work experience in a medical setting will be considered a plus.

License or Certification required by the Department:

This position requires registration as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
