Library Specialists perform professional duties and responsibilities for a variety of routine and well-defined technical library services. They specialize in one particular branch of library service, such as bibliographic searches, descriptive and routine cataloging, maintaining electronic resources and services, library circulation services and supervision, processing inter-library loans, or scanning and processing library acquisitions. In smaller departmental libraries, they may perform combination of duties. They assist library patrons in locating and using library resources and explain library policies and procedures. Library Specialists supervise clerical and student workers. Work is performed independently, guided by a supervisor.

Core responsibilities for the Acquisitions and Fiscal Manager include processing order requests for print, audiovisual and electronic materials, standing orders, and serials subscriptions; Coordinating with the cataloguing department to ensure final processing of orders; Preparing and processing invoices; Accurate maintenance of all fiscal records and reconciliation of monthly budget reports for both internal Library administration and College finance department; Maintenance and updating of all budget, order, and invoice records in the library management system.
Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Previous experience in an academic library environment is preferred. Additional skills necessary are proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel along with familiarity of an integrated library management system. Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and good problem-solving skills are required. The preferred candidate should be able to work with minimal supervision and as a team member as necessary. Preference will be given to candidates who articulate a clear understanding of UVA Wise’s public liberal arts mission.

Education: Bachelor's degree. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Previous experience in an academic library environment is preferred.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
