The Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT) at The University of Virginia is seeking a Data Operations Specialist or Senior Data Operations Specialist (commensurate with education and experience), to join our team in Charlottesville, VA. Data Operations Specialists support efforts to ensure that data standards are developed, maintained, and utilized in support of clinical research. They assist in business and system development and maintenance. They are primarily embedded with clinical research teams on studies to provide support on all matters relating to data, diabetes devices and applications, and data collection systems. The Data Operations Specialist performs a variety of data collection, management, compilation, and coding functions related to the secure preparation of accurate data sets. They work with, help develop, and provide training and support for clinical data systems (both external and internal). Primary duties support clinical research; the position works closely with Research Coordinators.

Data Operations Specialists collect, document descriptive, analytical, and evaluative data in support of research and informational gathering activities. They will produce, revise and store written text, graphs, and numerical data. They complete tasks as assigned on a daily or weekly basis. Data Operations Specialists also monitor research study data and ensure the accuracy of data entered and completion of all required forms and applications. They assist in business, process, and system maintenance, development, and creation.

CDT was originally established in 2010 in association with the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences Behavioral Sciences, Endocrinology, and the School of Engineering, and during 2017, was formally established as an independent Center. CDT has pursued a path to advance the use of technology, including analytics, to allow improved management, monitoring, and therapies for patients with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). Currently, CDT is a recognized world leader in the technological treatment of diabetes and a hub of an international research network of leading U.S. institutions (Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Mayo Clinic, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine) and worldwide groups in Italy, France, Holland, and Argentina.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Ensure high quality data is collected for analysis and support confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the data.
  • Identify, document, and correct errors in data sets; and help determine the best course of action to correct and prevent errors going forward.
  • Train and troubleshoot users (both clinical research participants and CDT staff) on research devices, apps, software, etc. based on processes and protocol.
  • Support hardware (sensors, smartphones, insulin pumps) and applications used in research.
  • Code or transcribe data into forms or databases as needed.
  • Conduct ETL processes utilizing programming and/or scripting to process, de-identify, and code data sets for further analysis.
  • Perform basic analysis of information in support of research, project support, and business operations.
  • Assist in the design, programming, testing, and maintenance of data entry forms. Monitor use of forms throughout the life cycle of the study or project.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Data Operations Specialist:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Senior Data Operations Specialist:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree
  • Experience: At least three year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Preferred Requirements:

Preference will be given to those with experience with ETL processes, Clinical Research, and Diabetes or Diabetes Research. Also experience with programming or scripting languages (e.g. Python, R, VBA, Java, etc.), MS O365 environment, AWS, and database systems, SQL, NoSQL are highly desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Most of the work performed is in an office environment.
  • Work will require being on-site in a clinical research setting and requires interaction with clinical research participants
  • Clinic research admissions may require night and weekend work
  • Most work is performed sitting in front of a computer

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
