Asst. Project Scientist-Research on mechanisms of mitophagy (autophagy of mitochondria) in human cells- QB3
Description:
The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) is a cooperative effort between the state of California, private industry, venture capital, and the University of California campuses at Berkeley, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. In order to stimulate discovery at the intersection of the physical and biological sciences, QB3 promotes multidisciplinary research at world-class facilities, creates innovative educational programs, and fosters industry partnerships. The Institute's more than 200 researchers decipher the complex systems involved in living systems and discover ground-breaking applications for that basic knowledge in the areas of health, energy, and the environment.
The Hurley Lab investigates the fundamental questions of how the interaction between proteins and membranes determine cell and organelle shape and the evolution of shape over time, how protein-membrane interactions turn on and off the signals that control essential cell processes, and how pathogens such as HIV-1 subvert and co-opt these interactions. We are seeking an Assistant Project Scientist to carry out foundation-supported research on the mechanisms of mitophagy (autophagy of mitochondria) in human cells to understand and treat Parkinson's Disease.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Project Scientist will create and carry out assays for the recruitment of autophagy adaptors, the ULK1 complex, PI 3-kinase complex I, WIPI2, and the ATG16L1 complex to membranes, and activation of the downstream machinery of LC3 lipidation.
The candidate will design, carry out, and analyze data, present data at internal, national, and international meetings, and prepare manuscripts for publications and progress reports.
