    Position Description:

    Under minimal supervision from Director, this position is responsible for organizing and prioritizing daily activities by relieving Director and other department managers of routine and non-routine administrative duties.  The Administrative Assistant 1 provides direct administrative assistance to the Laboratory Director and support to laboratory management.  The Administrative Assistant 1 also serves to interact with visitors, volunteers, and other relevant internal and external stakeholders, too ensure overall department functionality. Serves as an ambassador of UTMC in the community, demonstrating our organization’s values, services, and mission.

    Qualifications:

    Education / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    1. Associate’s degree in business or related area or equivalent experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    2. At least five years of secretarial office experience with use of personal computers utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Lawson, and some accounting background.
    3. Previous experience in a hospital setting with medical terminology experience/knowledge.
    4. Working knowledge of accepted office practices and procedures required.
    5. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
    6. Exhibits integrity and flexibility with appreciation for punctuality, regular attendance and dependability.
    7. Ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
    8. Must be able to type 70 wpm and work in a professional office environment and possess good organizational skills.

    Working Conditions:Works in a professional office environment with possible high stress levels. May spend long hours on computer.
