Department Description:

The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, founded in 1975, is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center. The Center’s mission is to reduce cancer occurrence and death in North Carolina and the nation through research, treatment, training and outreach.

The UNC Lineberger Office of Clinical & Translational Research (OCTR) ( supports the clinical and translational research efforts of The Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC) by providing infrastructure, services, and training to enable a broad range of local and multi-site cancer research initiatives. The OCTR specializes in the management of biospecimens and clinical data and works closely with clinicians and investigators to design and conduct innovative cancer research studies to better understand cancer and improve the lives of those living with it. OCTR provides full-service administrative, regulatory, data management, and study coordination services to investigators throughout the development, approval and implementation processes of protocols conducted at UNC and its affiliate institutions.

Position Description:

This position assigned to Lineberger’s Office of Clinical Translational Research (OCTR) provides study coordination and technical support across the growing OCTR Breast Cancer Research program including assisting with maintenance and management of the metastatic breast cancer database, tracking and organizing biospecimens, coordinating a posthumous tissue donation study and a prospective metastatic breast cancer study, and assisting with other OCTR studies as needed. This position will also involve the development of informational materials, manuscripts, grant proposals and management of other projects related to the program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Experience consenting patients to research studies and/or patient interaction is required.

Prior experience with translational science projects including standard operating procedures for tissue acquisition and procurement, clinical trial documents including consent forms, and data extraction in the form of completion of case report forms and/or providing data for flow sheets or information databases and prior experience with databases is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of research/analysis is preferred.

Experience or familiarity with medical records, database infrastructure and biomedical human research policies is highly desirable.

Willingness and/or experience in technical writing, data entry, and keyboard skills will be very useful. Experience with medical terminology or a willingness to learn this vocabulary is highly desirable. Experience in grant and manuscript writing preferred.
