Description of Work:

The Specialty Trades Technician will assist with ongoing research to address COVID-19 by the development of instrumentation to perform assays for the Highly Multiplexed Point-of-Care Digital Protein Assay Platform with Digital Molecular Capability project. The Technician’s responsibilities will include performing research, building prototypes, inspecting equipment, maintaining inventory stock levels, and practicing good housekeeping. This position requires complex maintenance and/or repair of machines, instruments, and tools for standard and specialized equipment.

The Technician will be expected to independently troubleshoot potential problems and communicate effective suggestions for improvement of equipment and processes to senior level scientist. The Technician will be responsible for gathering and accurately recording data and for effectively reporting results to senior staff in reports and presentations. They will collaborate with other team members to integrate new assays into the microfluidic platform. The Technician will have a sound understanding of engineering terminology, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and familiarity with laboratory life science tools/equipment

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Physical and Mental Requirements:

The ability to lift, with the assistance of one other person, 88 pounds (40 kg) of instrumentation with approximate dimensions 25” x 22.5” x 26” (63 cm x 57 cm x 66 cm) from the floor to a 37.5”-high (95-cm-high) benchtop is required.
