Essential Job Duties:

The primary purpose of the position is to support the Research Program Manager and Administrative Program Specialist on all current and pending research projects. Under direction from the Research Program Manager, this position will submit and process all department research proposals, fellowship grants and industry sponsored clinical trials. This position will monitor all awards for required communication with sponsors (ie progress reports), and closeouts of all studies. Position will serve as backup for processing travel, paying invoices, setting up independent contractors and assisting the Research Program Specialist in monitoring and tracking all expenses and invoicing required for all studies. This position will have the responsibility of conducting internal audits of all ITR research studies per department policy under the supervision of the Research Program Manager. In addition to these primary duties, position will assist the Research Program Specialist in other day to day activities as needed, including serving as the regulatory person who will submit new contracts, modifications and amendments, track Certificates of Confidentiality, and maintain regulatory binders for sub-contract sites of multi-site projects. This position will work very closely with the Research Program Specialist and serve as the primary assistant for the above activities.

Other Work/Responsibilities:

This person will act as the department’s Contract and Grants Manager and will take on additional duties including paying grant invoices, submitting federal, industry sponsored, and investigator initiated grant applications. Will also monitor all financial accounts including quite a few donation/gift accounts along with over 150 grant accounts.

Minimum Experience/Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Department Required Skills:

Previous experience with either pre or post award activities (particularly with NIH funded projects) is necessary. Essential qualifications include the ability to work independently, careful attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Must have excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:

Ideally someone who has experience at UNC and familiarity with UNC financial processes and systems such as ConnectCarolina, InfoPorte, etc.
