The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) is a multi-disciplinary department focused on answering critical research questions related to human dimensions of natural and built environments, community health and well-being, and equitable and sustainable tourism. The mission of the Department is to advance and disseminate scholarship concerning the management and use of natural and cultural resources for recreation, tourism, and sport through research, teaching, and public engagement. Essential Job Duties:

  • The Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) is accepting applications for the position of Non-Tenure Track Lecturer and Cooperative Education Coordinator. The primary responsibilities of the position are undergraduate instruction and internship placement for students in the Professional Golf Management (PGM) program.
  • Additional duties include identifying and placing students in internships (also called cooperative educational experiences) and coordinating golf player development activities for students in the PGM program. Advising and service on departmental committees is also expected.
  • The undergraduate Professional Golf Management curriculum is one of only 17 universities with an accredited Professional Golfers Association (PGA). As a PGA Golf Management University Program, we aim to train experts in both the game and business of golf. We are the only program where students receive a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, one of NC State’s top 10 majors, with a concentration in PGA Golf Management. Our graduates receive PGA membership upon job placement.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Player Development Director.
  • Retainment and recruitment of current and future students. Serve on college and department level committees.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in parks, recreation, tourism, sport or related field. A minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in the golf industry.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Evidence of teaching at the post-secondary level. Candidates should have knowledge and experience to teach Professional Golf Management classes that focus on golf instruction and player development competencies.
  • Candidates should possess strong communication skills to interact with students, industry partners, and other external stakeholders. Candidates should possess excellent organizational and time management skills in order to advance multiple ongoing professional development activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Potential to teach undergraduate Sport Management courses outside of the PGM program. Potential for innovation in undergraduate teaching and mentoring and experience using course management systems such as Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard.
  • Potential to advance diversity, inclusion, and equity within golf and within the university.
    Candidates should provide evidence of a workstyle that is collaborative, respectful, and creative.
  • Candidates should be a current member of the PGA of America. Completion of post-baccalaureate certifications sponsored by the PGA such as Certified Professional or Master Professional, is preferred. Experience and/or familiarity with various forms of golf technology systems including ForeSight, FlightScope, TrackMan, and SAM Putt Lab.
