● The primary responsibility of this position is to contribute to research, development, and outreach efforts that require a high level of expertise with emerging technologies and their use in K-12 and higher education settings. This position is responsible for the overall management of IT services and resources for the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. This position supervises IT staff and provides leadership in three areas: IT Operations, project IT support, and furthering the overall mission of the Friday Institute.
○Supports the FI Executive Director in leading operational tasks throughout the Institute
○Manages Friday institute Emergency Management and Mission Continuity Planning and Implementation Process
○Serves as a University-Designated Mandatory Employee for response to FI-related emergencies
○Maintains Friday Institute server and cloud computing infrastructure on Amazon Web services
○Develops IT budget and spending plan, and manages IT-related purchasing
○Supervises IT and web development employees and contracted IT/programming staff
○Works with project teams to ensure the security of all Institute and project data, as well as compliance with IRB and applicable laws related to issues of data management.
○Provides second-level technical support for desktops and events systems
○Develops long-range plan for equipment maintenance and AV infrastructure
○Develops the Friday Institute website
○Manages the Friday Institute Learning Management System and develops custom plugins and integrations as needed
○Acts as after-hours contact for facilities- and IT- related issues
○Participate in pre- and post-award planning to identify and develop IT support and budgetary needs, data security requirements, and data management plans
○Works with project teams to identify, select, and purchase or develop the technology tools needed to support their work
○Engage as a member of project teams to conduct and support research, outreach, and engagement activities
●Supporting the Mission of the Friday Institute
○Serves on the Friday Institute leadership team, and serves as a liaison to NC State University Office of Information Technology
○Leads and participates in projects, grants, and contracted services that further the mission and goals of the Friday Institute
● Other duties as assignedMinimum Education and Experience:
● Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, education, information technology, or related field
● Five years of experience in IT or educational technology
● Equivalent combination of degree and experience
●This position requires knowledge and expertise in emerging technologies and their potential educational research applications along with strong organizational and collaboration abilities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience designing, developing and carrying out projects that involve the application of emerging technologies, such as virtual learning and collaboration tools, social networking, mobile technologies, and web 2.0 productivity tools. We are specifically seeking an individual who can compliment the expertise of the faculty, staff, and graduate students involved in Friday Institute projects and strengthen our capacity to extend our work in technology-enhanced education.
● The position also requires excellent communication and collaboration skills (including oral and written abilities) to effectively convey original ideas and concepts across various University, public and private constituencies and to establish excellent rapport with educators, researchers, and government and corporate partners.
●Extensive knowledge of AWS cloud computing infrastructure
●Knowledge of and experience with Active Directory, JAMF, Windows and Mac Client-Server Environments, iOS MDM tools
●Experience with IT budgets, data management and security, Google Apps for Education, and Amazon S3
●Experience in K-12 digital learning environments or K-12 teaching experience and knowledge of the North Carolina Digital Learning Plan
●Masters or Doctorate in education, educational leadership, information technology, or related field
