Program Director for Business Development

This position provides leadership for the management and implementation of the sales efforts for the conference services program within the University Center and Event Services department (UCES) and coordination of marketing efforts for the conference services program as well as the entire UCES department.  The Program Director will work to grow the department’s revenue profits through attracting new clients and maintaining existing clients for the benefit of the client, department, and University. This position serves as both an advocate for the client and the University, this position exists to generate revenue through external/contracted sales, marketing, contract negotiation and public relations.

Job Duties:

  • Create, implement and provide leadership for a comprehensive sales and marketing action plan, in collaboration with the UCES Director, to maximize revenue from non-university affiliated clients.
  • Initiate and negotiate full-service contracts for conference and event clients including but not limited to university housing, food and beverage, meeting space, technology, and other needs in partnership with on-campus service providers.
  • Review and provide regular updates on individual and overall sales goals as well as other key data indicators reflecting progress on meeting monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals.
  • Maintain data thorough sales records in customer relations management software and/or database.
  • Establish and maintain records of new and lost business opportunities including assessment and feedback from clients regarding their business choices.
  • Lead department-wide Marketing work team to improve messaging to university departments, student clubs, and other university affiliated groups in regard to services provided and event planning procedures for campus events.
  • Provide leadership and guidance on ensuring all marketing, website, and social media presences are unified.
  • Responsible for the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of student sales and marketing staff/interns.
  • Optimize event and conference services’ space utilization in classroom, meeting rooms, and conference housing facilities.
  • Provide campus and venue tours to potential clients and answer questions regarding space reservation and event coordination services.
  • Maintain contact with current clients to ascertain future business requirements and to communicate any potential concerns to event coordinators for resolution.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by following up on client concerns and questions to make certain that the client’s needs are being met.
  • Represent department in event and conference presentations to the campus and Colorado Springs community.
  • Research market trends and recommend promotions designed to attract new business.
  • As needed, provide additional event support and coordination for the event services team.
  • Assist with department-wide assessment initiatives.
  • Promote positive customer service at all times.
  • Job Competencies:

  • Ability to act independently and exercise appropriate initiative to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of how business-to-business sales are conducted including at a corporate level.
  • Demonstrates strong research and strategic analysis skills.
  • Established skills at negotiating and closing deals with clients.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and must be able to cold call potential clients with confidence.
  • A proven track record in public presentation and speaking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills are essential as well as performance monitoring.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office and associated programs.
  • This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer:

    Salary Range: Generally starting at $50,000 - $55,000

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Tentative Search Timeline:

    Qualifications
    Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing/communication or business administration or equivalent number of years of experience.
  • Five (5) years of related experience with progressive management experience.
  •  

    Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in sales, marketing/communication or business administration.
  • Experience working with customer relations management (CRM) software.
  • Three (3) years of direct sales experience with demonstrated ability to meet and/or exceed sales goals.
  • Experience with university conferences and event planning programs.
  • Experience with Kinetic Software (Kx) for event planning.
  • Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
