Position Summary:

The mission of the Center for Student Leadership (CSL) is to provide all UCI students with the necessary skills and opportunities to engage the campus and the broader world as authentic and transformational leaders. The CSL serves as a hub for student leadership by connecting students with opportunities to develop as leaders and practically apply their leadership skills throughout the university. The CSL is firmly rooted in the value of social justice and trains students not to simply manage the world as it is, but to envision what it might be and boldly pursue positive social and institutional change both on campus and beyond. This deep engagement with the transformative power of leadership begins with orientation and continues through graduation.

Manages a discrete Student Affairs or Student Life & Development function and/or program. Formulates policies and procedures for the function. Develops the long- and short-term organizational goals of the unit. Represents the program internally and externally. Manages the operating budget and human resources of the program. Oversees the management and direction of the Center for Student Leadership. Provides top level oversight and supervision for all activities related to programs and services for orientation, impacting more than 7,000 students and more than 3,000 parents/guardians each year. Manages annual orientation budget of more than $2,000,000.00. Provides primary management of all CSL Leadership Programs including the AntLeader Certificate Program, the AntLeader Search Engine, the AntLeader Spotlight, online AntLeader Portfolios, and Zot Badges. Manages the Administrative Intern Program (AIP). Oversees long and short-range goal and strategy development, program planning, marketing, monitoring, and evaluation for functional area. Directly responsible for supervision of, 1 Student Affairs Officer IV, 1 Student Affairs Officer II, 1 Blank Assistant 3, two paid student Coordinators for the Administrative Internship Program, one CSL Assessment & Innovation Intern, and indirect supervision of 1 Student Affairs Officer II, 5 Para-professional staff, 6 or more Student Interns, 160+ student volunteers, and other student staff as required. Manages the Center for Student Leadership facility. Interprets UCI policies and procedures that apply to campus activities, organizations, and students. The position is given the latitude to assess and analyze trends in new student transition and student leadership and develop strategies to address those issues.

Compensation Range:

Annually: $69,900.00 - $106,400.00

Required:

Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Successful experience supervising professional staff.

Financial management and accounting experience in developing departmental budgets and tracking and projecting expenditures.

Established expertise in the area of orientation and transitional programs for domestic and international freshmen and transfer students and their guardians.

Strong communications skills to effectively interact with diverse populations including students from different cultural backgrounds as well as, faculty, staff, community members, and government representatives.

Superior customer service and interpersonal capabilities.

Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership, and intercultural competence.

Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.

Strong knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.

Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.

Preferred:

Advanced degree in related area preferred.

Knowledge of University policies, processes, and procedures.

Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.

Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes, or services, to make improvements.

Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
