The Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music in the College of Arts and Humanities invites applications and nominations for the position of Distinguished Scholar in Guitar/Music Industry and tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music. The home campus for this position will be the Armstrong campus.

Georgia Southern University was founded in 1906 as a school for teaching modern agricultural production techniques and homemaking skills to rural school children. Its Savannah campus was established in 1935 as Armstrong Junior College for local youth who could not afford to attend college away from home. The Liberty Center in Hinesville was established in 1998 to serve the military and their families at nearby Fort Stewart, the largest military base east of the Mississippi. All three locations came together in 2018 when Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University consolidated. The new music industry program will cater to students looking for a career in the evolving music industry scene of the 21st century.

Position Description. Reporting to the school chair, the Distinguished Scholar in Guitar/Music Industryis an academic (10 month) appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Successful candidate will be Program Coordinator for the Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry program and will be the public representative for the Gretsch Instrument Collection, working closely with the Gretsch Museum and Library as the long-term lead in donor and Georgia Southern relations. The successful candidate will have a background in music industry, with guitar as the applied instrument. Duties include a) teaching applied guitar; b) teaching courses in the music industry program; c) acting as program coordinator for B.A. Music Industry including preparing assessment reports related to the program; d) advancing the public face of the Gretsch collection through regular clinics,performances, ,and scholarship; e) performing additional duties as assigned. The Distinguished Scholar in Guitar/Music Industry will file annual reports of progress to the College of Arts and Humanities Dean's office.

Required Qualifications:
Advanced degree in music industry or closely related field by August 1, 2021
Guitar as primary instrument.
Music Industry Experience.
Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Terminal degree in music or closely related field
Experience with live sound reinforcement
Experience in managing music instrument collections
Three or more years of college/university teaching experience
