Sr Assoc Vice President for Equity
The Senior Associate Vice President oversees the university compliance with Title IX and Equity efforts and initiatives to address and prevent sexual misconduct and discrimination on campus. The Senior Associate Vice President is a key administrator in the university’s compliance efforts and commitment to providing a learning and working environment free of discrimination and harassment. The Senior Associate Vice President administers and implements Title IX investigations and compliance efforts. Senior Associate Vice President responsible for directing, coordinating and implementing the university activities related to equal opportunity investigations and compliance efforts. The Senior Associate Vice President is a key contributor for ensuring university commitment to fair and equitable treatment of employees through an efficient operation in a manner that is in compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations and organizational policies and procedures in the area of discrimination/Equal Opportunity. The Senior Associate Vice President displays an ongoing and active commitment to sustained and effective change, and to developing and encouraging new ideas.
- Responsible for and overseeing compliance with the all elements of the Title IX Educational Amendments of 1972 and the University’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. Supervise the timely planning and completion of investigations and response to alleged violations of sexual misconduct investigations and sex discrimination involving students, faculty, and staff. Review and advise on investigation reports and letters, as well as hearing and appeal determinations and recommendations. Collect and analyze cases, data, and trends related to discrimination and sexual misconduct complaints, determinations and trainings. Generate Annual Report required under Sexual Misconduct Policy, as well as similar reports related to discrimination cases. Develop plans for programs, services, education and assessment of Title IX programs and prevention efforts, including sexual misconduct prevention training. Oversee the development of programs and services that directly complement the mission and strategic goals of the university and the Division of Student Affairs. Recruit, train, develop, and supervise staff and graduate students according to Human Resource guidelines and policies in order to provide exceptional programs and services for the university and specifically for our students. In consultation with other university offices, develop and implement Title IX training programs for students, faculty, and staff. In consultation with other university offices, provide leadership in the development and implementation of ongoing campus-wide climate surveys to assess the university community’s overall understanding of sexual misconduct and gender-based issues and trends, and to assist in developing programs and responses. Advise and collaborate with the offices of Student Affairs, Human Resources, Provost, deans and others, as appropriate, on the status of initiatives, case management trends, and challenges regarding sexual misconduct and Title IX compliance. - Regularly attend sexual misconduct prevention trainings, including discrimination / harassment and Title IX trainings to ensure compliance with investigative standards and continuously identify and integrate best practices as they relate to sexual misconduct and Title IX compliance. (10%)
- Manage and oversee the timely completion of investigations of and response to alleged violations of employment-related and education-related equal opportunity laws, including discrimination, harassment and retaliation investigations involving faculty, students and staff. Implement and manage processes for investigations related to equity and discrimination issues. Accountable for ensuring that all processes are in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, provide for effective integration of investigations, minimize the organization's business risk and legal liability and effectively promote problem resolution. Manage the quality and consistency of investigations and resolution of formal and internal charges of discrimination. Exercise intervention as needed to reduce any bottlenecks in the efficient and timely completion of individual investigations. Assure appropriate coordination and preparation in dealing with university’s general counsel, external counsel and government agencies. Review and advise on investigation reports and letters, as well as hearing and appeal determinations and recommendations. Maintain compliance with findings and recommendations in determinations and outcome letters. Oversee the tracking and monitoring of cases, data, and trends related to discrimination complaints, determinations and trainings. Oversee staff and faculty ADA accommodation process to ensure compliance with reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Serve as the university’s Section 504 Coordinator. Generate reports related to discrimination cases. Prepare annual report on sexual misconduct, discrimination and ADA complaints/concerns brought forward during the academic year for faculty. Submit expunged report to the Vice President of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity and the Faculty Senate. (50%)

Department: Continuous contact to coordinate and supervise investigations, resolutions, and prevention efforts.
University: Frequent contact with staff, faculty, and students to coordinate investigations, resolutions, and prevention programming.
External: Occasional contact with outside agencies or visitors to the university in relation to investigations, resolutions, and prevention programming.
Students: Regular contact in relation to investigations, resolutions, and prevention programming.
Direct supervisory responsibility for Investigators and other staff in the office.
Experience: 10 years of progressive experience with increasing responsibility in areas of student affairs, student conduct, equal opportunity, or similar experience in investigating, responding to, and resolving complaints and grievances or similar related compliance experience required. Experience in a higher education environment preferred. Experience working on compliance with Title IX and related regulatory requirements preferred.
Education/Licensing: J.D., or Master’s degree in higher education, counseling or related field required.
- Experience and/or training with Title IX, sexual discrimination and harassment investigations, resolutions, and prevention.
- Ability to effectively supervise and provide direction to staff on projects and issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information/communication.
- Effective project management, organizational and analytical skills.
- Must have sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines in approaching responsibilities.
- Experience in participating in complaint and grievance processes and hearings.
- Demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with diverse constituencies.
- Experience in developing and conducting training and education programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of laws and regulations related to Title IX and sexual harassment, discrimination and/or misconduct. Knowledge of laws and regulations related to affirmative action / OFCCP and discrimination based on all protected categories and all community members, including Title VI, Title VII, ADEA, ADA/Section 504.
