Description:

Reporting to the Director, Sustainability Office and Energy Management, the Senior Utilities Reduction Manager will spearhead energy and water savings project and program initiatives. Responsible for identifying, developing, and overseeing the implementing and reporting on such initiatives through preliminary investigations, procurement of detailed engineering studies, producing cost benefit reports, and being the key project sponsor for those projects that proceed to construction. This Sr. Manager will maintain a database designed to track and monitor water and energy use prior to and after implementation of projects.

Working with members of the Sustainability Office and other key stakeholders in the F&S department such as Utilities, Property Management and Grounds to establish short and long-term goals for energy and water savings and oversees upgrade projects.

Within F&S, promotes both large and small-scale initiatives that will result in significant, permanent utility savings. Liaises with energy management team as well as other departments to effect recommended changes to achieve established goals. Co-ordinates and acts as sponsor to projects, working in collaboration with energy and project managers to ensure the timely and cost effective completion of water and energy reducing projects. Reviews activities from other institutions within the University sector and organizations outside of the sector ensuring the St. George campus has strategies and plans to establish and maintain sector leading best practices in utilities reduction at all times. Utilizes the funding provided, internally through the revolving fund and energy project funding, and externally via deferred maintenance budgets as well as incentives, grants in the most efficient and effective manner.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

EDUCATION:

Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering; licensed professional engineer in the Province of Ontario (P.Eng.). Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Building Commissioning Professional (CBCP) by Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), Project Management Professional (PMP), are an asset.

ISP CSP, LEED & WELL accreditations are preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5+ years experience in the field of energy management within the higher education, industrial and/or commercial and institutional sectors with a proven and verifiable track record. Minimum five years’ experience developing and implementing deep energy retrofit projects.

Preferred specific project development and design expertise in the area of;

    steam to hot water conversions in existing buildings electrification of heating systems with heat pumpsadvanced demand management techniques.

Demonstrable deep knowledge in the following areas is an asset;

    value based procurement, life cycle cost analysis, performance based energy contracting, Chilled water and low temperature hot water district energy systems and electrical micro-grids.

Strong preference to experience working in laboratory buildings and developing strategies to reduce EUI in fully occupied and sensitive environments. Development of conservation and demand management plans as well as supporting the development of energy policies and standards, is strongly preferred.

SKILLS:

Familiarity with statistical analysis and methodologies as related to energy use such as regression analysis, weather normalization and benchmarking.

Proficiency in the use of MS365 suite, expert level skill in database development and maintenance. Facility with statistical analysis, monitoring and methodologies as related to energy use (ie. Metrix, HAP, Tableau or others)

OTHER:

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write for publication and create and deliver presentations. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to gain consensus. Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as excellent collaboration with a larger team environments. Budget management skills.
