We are the community’s college, committed to student success through partnerships, transfer and career pathways, and personal enrichment.This part-time Technical assistant position is with the FAA approved Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate program in MVCC's School of STEM – Career. This program is housed exclusively at the state of the art, MVCC Aviation Training Center located on the airfield at Griffiss International Airport.Responsibilities include leadership, laboratory assistance for full time faculty, and general upkeep of the programs aircraft and Powerplant training aids. In addition, this position may be called on to help with program recruiting efforts.

The position requires interaction with students in the laboratory training environment, and a thorough knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices, techniques, and FAA requirements. It is a fast paced, highly dynamic program with considerable time spent on the aircraft hangar floor and outside working with larger jet aircraft. All of this will require extended time on your feet and can include climbing ladders and working from elevated platforms. With this there will be some lifting required from time to time.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assists all teaching staff and Adjuncts with required lab projects.
  • Helps/supervises students with performing lab exercises as assigned
  • Performs all regular housekeeping duties in the ATC.
  • Maintain ATC training equipment in working order as needed.
  • Insures all safety items in hangar are in working order.
  • Assists director and college with program marketing/ recruiting efforts.
  • Answers incoming phone calls and direct to appropriate staff member or take messages.
  • Is able to explain the A&P certificate program and answer general aviation maintenance questions for inquiring callers.
  • Accurately maintains required student academic files to meet FAA regulations as needed.
  • Assists with parts and supplies inventory monitoring.
  • Performs other duties as needed per the Director or Faculty needs.
  • Participates in scheduled meetings as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • FAA Mechanic A&P certificate required.
  • Minimum of two years aircraft maintenance experience or one year experience and be a graduate of the MVCC A&P Certificate program.
  • Must be able to obtain Airport Security Badge.
  • Be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to climb ladders and stairs to gain access to program aircraft interiors, engines, and equipment bays.
  • Requires occasional lifting of more than 40lbs.
  • Requires walking to and from aircraft parked on airport ramp area in all weather conditions.
