    Position Description:

    TheClerical Specialist creates, maintains and makes available clinical records forthe clinic patient population and retrieves clinical records for externalreview agencies, assuring availability and completeness of clinical record. The ClericalSpecialist also provides assistance to other clinic staff members in carryingout of physician orders and be able to perform receptionist duties such as:  telephone answering, computer entry,registration, appointment scheduling, transporting, and general clericalduties. 

    The ages of patients served spans from birth to age twenty-one.  Care will bedirected at taking information from patients, answering questions frompatients, visitors, etc. recognizing that every age group has uniquedevelopmental characteristics influencing the approach that should be utilizedin dealing with these patients.


    1. High School graduate or GED required.
    2. Typing skill of 35 WPM required. Minimum one-year experience in medical office procedures preferred.
    3. Previous Ambulatory Care experience preferred.
    4. Exhibits accuracy, integrity and flexibility to work multiple outpatient areas.
    5. Motivated to plan and organize work and to work without supervision.
    6. Must be tactful and courteous in dealing with patients and visitors. Able to maintain an effective working relationship with personnel and the health care team.
    7. Must have ability to write legibly, speak articulately, and follow directions accurately.
    8. Successfully completes orientation within three months.
    9. Computer experience required – Word, Excel.
    10. Current experience with Practice Management software – MYSIS, McKesson required.
    11. EMR experience preferred.
    12. Exhibits accuracy, integrity, and flexibility to work multiple outpatient areas.

    Working Conditions:1)Must be able to work flexible hours, shifts, holidays and weekends. 2)Tolerate busy office environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and physicians. 3)Requires prolonged walking and standing. 4)Occasional carrying of items weighing up to 30 pounds required. 5)Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range and manual dexterity.6)Requires the ability to operate various types of office equipment, including but not limited to:7)Personal computer8)Fax machines9)Copiers10)Telephones11)Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and there conditions common to a clinic environment on a daily basis.12)Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations.
