Description
The Student Success Coordinator directly serves enrolled and potential military-affiliated students as an academic mentor, coach, and adviser who is focused on services and programs to promote academic success, well-being and retention, and facilitates the student’s success and development at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Assists the VMA Director and staff in the general day-to-day operations of the Student Veteran Center.

Job Duties:

  • Supports the VMA Director and staff in coordinating and conducting objectives of VMA and the Student Veteran Center
  • Partners with Assistant Director to manage and execute the day-to-day operations of the Student Veteran Center
  • Provides reports to VMA Director and staff on Student Veteran Center usage to include number of visits, reasons for visits, and notable trends
  • Monitors and engages with students identified through Starfish Early Alert system and informs VMA Director and/or Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation (CARE) team of significant student issues, when necessary
  • Understands issues confronting military-affiliated students and helps them navigate available resources as well as gain confidence and connection in order to achieve their personal and professional goals
  • Implements strategic interventions including initiating proactive outreach with at risk students
  • Maintains a continuous focus on the student experience, student success and retention from initial enrollment through graduation.
  • Provides supplemental academic advising, general counseling and warm hand-offs/referrals to on- and off-campus resources for military-affiliated students
  • Works directly with and attends meetings with on- and off-campus partners in order to provide support and understanding of the unique needs of military-affiliated students, benefits, program and policies (i.e. staff training)
  • Participates in VMA’s Military-Affiliated New Student Orientations
  • Maintains knowledge of campus and college degree programs
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships with military support organizations and representatives throughout the community
  • Coordinates and schedules regular visits from on- and off-campus partners in the Student Veteran Center (i.e. Career Center, Excel Center, etc.,)
  • Grows and maintains active Peer Mentor and Veteran Tutoring Programs
  • Manages all small purchases for VMA and the Student Veteran Center (i.e. office supplies, snacks and coffee, memberships, subscriptions, etc.,)
  • Assists with VMA events and outreach, as needed
  • Evaluates and processes Joint Service Transcripts, as needed
  • Acts as a School Certifying Official, as needed
  • Other VMA duties as assigned

  • This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    What We Offer:

    Salary Range: Generally starting at $35,745 -$46,122

    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • 1-2 years work experience in academic advising or counseling at an institution of higher education, military support organization, or similar setting
  •  

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working directly with students at an institution of higher education
  • Experience working with Veterans, Active Duty, and their family members
  • Experience reporting and analyzing data
  • Experience supporting at-risk students (academically, socially, etc.,)
  • Experience serving in the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Experience as a School Certifying Official and knowledge of VA Educational Benefits
  •  

    Physical Requirements:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit.  Employee is occasionally required to move and/or stoop. Tasks may involve using a computer screen continuously for long periods of time; fingering. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
