Position Summary:

The Assistant/Reader provides support to assist a Professor of Hispanic Studies in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures to teach two courses each semester. Classes and course materials are in both Spanish and English. The incumbent works up to 15 hours per week and typically 6 of those hours are in the classroom each week. For the 2021/2022 Academic Year, the courses are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and 2:00 to 3:20 p.m.

Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in the Spanish and English languages; be reliable and able to effectively work independently; excellent and effective organizational skills; ability to maintain confidential student records; ability and skill with Microsoft Office software and Zoom; and experience with laptops, projectors, and other classroom technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Blackboard is strongly preferred. Training provided as needed.

Conditions of Employment::

This position is a hourly position that works up to 15 hours per week. All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed on average 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.
