Job Description

As part of the Office of Admissions team, this position is responsible for leading the recruitment efforts to attract returning students to A&M-San Antonio. They will also be responsible for retention efforts of these students by managing a caseload to ensure returning students enroll, have access to student services and support to address their needs. This individual will design and implement programming to support returning students through the enrollment process to A&M-San Antonio. This individual will also liaise with the Offices of Access, Registrar, Student Success, and Academic Advising to ensure that clear and up-to-date academic pathways are developed and maintained to drive completion of an undergraduate degree.

This position typically works Monday-Friday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Position will require evenings, weekends and peak times. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.

This is a grant-funded position. Grant funded positions are time-limited and are contingent upon sufficient grant funding.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Recruitment :

  • Develops, coordinates and delivers outreach programs and marketing strategies, including community workshops, retreats, and related recruitment efforts; arranges events prospective returning students.

  • Provides career and academic counseling, planning, and advising to potential returning students utilizing specific knowledge gained of the university colleges, educational programs and degrees.

  • Independently develops and maintains partnerships between the university, local school systems, alumni networks, faculty, community partners, and other identified groups throughout the assigned territory/population.

  • May assist with college fairs, as needed.

  • May also require limited overnight travel to attend/host admissions events.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Retention:

  • Manage returning student caseload throughout the academic year to ensure students continued enrollment

  • Acts as a liaison for academic support services such as tutoring, library services, and distance learning support.

  • Acts as a liaison between various student affairs areas such as Counseling, Student Disability Services, Career Services and Financial Aid.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Texas Common Course Numbering System

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Knowledge of functions of higher education

  • Knowledge of recruitment and marketing, CRM or event planning software

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Strong oral presentation skills and written communication skills. Excellent time management skills.

  • Ability to lead and motivate others

  • Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records.

  • Ability to work independently according to established schedules and to complete assignments and projects, as per defined timelines.

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, university employees and the public.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and other groups.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field.

  • Three years of experience is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior experience with transfer student recruitment, academic advising, and course articulation preferred.

Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one within the first 30 days of employment.
