Reporting to the Engineer & HVAC Supervisor, the Roving Engineer II is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the various mechanical and building systems (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning [HVAC], compressed air systems, vacuum systems, fire alarm, and protection systems, etc.) to ensure occupant comfort and to provide adequate services to the assigned campus buildings.  This position will also monitor the operation of various mechanical equipment on a regular basis; and start, stop, operate, and/or dispatch the appropriate mechanical equipment necessary.  In addition, the Roving Engineer II will monitor and accurately record various mechanical equipment operating parameters (pressure, temperature, flow, etc.) and meter readings on a regular basis as required for equipment performance monitoring and regulatory recordkeeping compliance. The Roving Engineer II will perform routine mechanical and electrical work necessary to maintain the various mechanical systems in working order; and start, stop, operate, and monitor the various mechanical systems in the assigned buildings through the utilization of the Building Automation System.  The Roving Engineer II will drive Temple vehicles around campus, and also traverse between one campus to another, to perform duties such as but not limited to transporting pumps, safety equipment for entering steam manholes and fulfilling our obligations to the Dental School on HSC campus and boilers at the Ambler campus. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Must be a graduate of one of the following: vocational/technical school (2-year program) specializing in HVAC or; accredited apprenticeship program in HVAC (4-5 year program) or; equivalent trade-specific military school(s) or equivalent corporate training program.

A minimum of five years of experience in operating and maintaining HVAC and other building services in an industrial or educational campus environment.  Experience performing maintenance and repair of various types of mechanical and electrical equipment. Experience utilizing a Building Automation System for the operation of various mechanical and building systems.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

* Expert knowledge in the operation and maintenance of the various mechanical and building systems (HVAC systems, compressed air systems, vacuum systems, fire alarm, and protection systems, etc.) utilized to provide heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, and other services to campus buildings.

*Fundamental understanding of the engineering principles (thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, psychometrics, etc.) that pertain to the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning of buildings and the operation of other building services.

*Ability to utilize expert knowledge of the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems in conjunction with a fundamental understanding of engineering principles involved to anticipate operational issues, troubleshoot problems that arise, and take any corrective actions necessary to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the various building mechanical systems.

*Ability to read and understand equipment maintenance and repair manuals, mechanical system design drawings, diagrams, and other documentation as required for the operation and maintenance of various building mechanical systems.

*Must possess the basic mechanical and electrical skills necessary to perform routine maintenance tasks.

*Must possess the excellent written and verbal communication skills that are essential to communicate effectively with all members of the Temple community (customers and supervision).

*Knowledge of safe work practices (including PPE requirements for work assignments), applicable building codes, and government regulations including, but not limited to, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA70E.

*Ability to utilize personal computers & software (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office applications, etc.) for routine daily tasks (reports, business communications, etc.) and to operate the Building Automation System.

* Must have a valid City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade A License or be eligible and successfully obtain a City of Philadelphia Engineer Grade A License within the first 120 days of employment.

*Must be able to perform tasks that require lifting, climbing, working at heights, and bending.

*Must possess adequate manual dexterity to effectively utilize hand and power tools.

*This position requires a background check
