Advertised Job Summary:

The Information Technology Technician is responsible for providing technical support on departmental IT needs on a daily basis. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware and software utilized by Admissions staff; document disaster and security compliance; attend Network Manager meetings; and collaborate with other IT staff along with the Division of IT to deploy and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) for servers and PCs.

The Information Technology Technician will periodically participate in recruiting activities as needed, including attending on- and off-campus recruitment events as the technical lead.

Position requires some evening and weekend work and may also require occasional travel.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems; or equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Windows system administration tasks, including: Windows Desktop and Server, Microsoft Office Suite, Email Exchange and Active Directory, iOS or Android platforms, iPhones, iPads, and desktop/laptop hardware troubleshooting. Knowledge of ticket and inventory software administration is also preferred.


Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying office policies and procedures while maintaining confidentiality of information or IT equipment. Ability to provide support remotely or in-person device actions with users. Basic knowledge of project management, monitoring, and reporting techniques. Ability to think creatively and analytically. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities and projects concurrently. Ability to work independently and with little direct supervision, but also collaboratively as a member of a team. Possess and maintain a customer-friendly and positive attitude, especially while working under pressure. Cultivate and manage key relationships. Negotiate with and persuade others. Expert with personal computers, including operating systems, software, hardware, and Microsoft products (particularly MS Office). Proficient with networking standards and maintenance of Active Directory and Exchange. Knowledge of industry standards, including security protocols for data and networking. Working knowledge of MS Office. Possess a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
