Overview

Macalester College seeks to hire a Health Promotion Specialist (.75 FTE) to work in its Laurie Hamre Center for Health and Wellness. The Health Promotion Specialist will develop, implement, and evaluate health and wellness initiatives that are part of a comprehensive well-being strategy for our students. This position works collaboratively across campus to create an environment that supports student success and personal development. 

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion initiatives that are evidence-based, collaborative, and culturally inclusive.
  • Utilize evidence-based health communication strategies to collaborate on health campaigns through a variety print, electronic, and social media.
  • Partner with campus departments such as Residential Life to develop training that empowers students in pursuing well-being.
  • Assist in the supervision and active mentoring of student employees (Health Promotion Program Assistants) and volunteers (Sexy Educators) who work to advance peer-led educational initatives.
  • Engage in and promote Macalester’s culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in health promotion, public health, psychology, or a related field.
  • experience with college student health (may include work as an undergraduate or graduate student).
  • Knowledge of health promotion, behavior change theory, and student development.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong computer skills:  Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, social media platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, public health-oriented environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and diversity.  

 

Preferred

 

  • A master's degree in health promotion, public health, health communication, higher education, or a related field.
  • Experience with student supervision.
  • Content knowledge in any of the following:  alcohol and other drug prevention, sexual health and sexual respect, mental health promotion, general wellness.
