Postdoctoral Research Associate in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics: The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, United States

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate at the Department of Physics, University of Tennessee (UTK) and the Joint Institute for Advanced Material (JIAM) – a joint venture with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The successful applicant will carry out interdisciplinary materials research that touches on a wide range of topics such as correlated electron systems, topological states, frustrated magnetism, multiferroics and superconductivity. One of the focuses of his/her research will be on ultralow temperature transport measurements on materials and devices for various emergent quantum states. The successful applicant will develop and establish a novel methodology that probes exotic collective excitations through interface engineering. The successful applicant will also gain exposure to synthesis techniques, such as single crystal growth and epitaxial deposition. Research will be performed at the UTK campus and national facilities, such as synchrotrons and high magnetic field laboratory.

UT’s Department of Physics & Astronomy has an exemplary research record, with seven professors earning NSF CAREER awards in the past eight years, eight professors recently cited among the world’s top two percent of physicists (based on citations), and Professor Geoff Greene honored with the prestigious Bonner Prize in 2020. The University of Tennessee is a thriving research community located near Oak Ridge National Laboratory, with whom UT shares five joint institutes. Situated in the Tennessee Valley, the University is on the doorstep of the Smoky Mountains National Park.
