Summary of Duties:

The Assistant Director of Gift Accounting is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the day-to-day gift operations of the WSU Foundation. The Assistant Director supervises 8 – 9 employees and is responsible for creating/updating position descriptions, interviewing, hiring, and writing and performing annual staff reviews. Responsible for unit operations; defines scope of work and duties, utilizes numerous individuals and agency resources, and oversees and monitors all gift records and processing functions. Devises and improves unit efficiencies, promotes change related to gift and pledge processing and staff. Delegates and assigns work, provides cross training for all functions of the unit, documents internal and external audience procedures, creates and produces gift and pledge reports, generates and reviews gift and pledge data to assist internal/external staff, and donors. Ensures accuracy and integrity of gift/pledge and donor records; interprets and explains IRS and university gift regulations and policies and uses independent judgment to make decisions.

This position will act as a resource and liaison between Advancement Services units, WSU Foundation, WSU staff, and WSU colleges and units to improve processes, create Documentation, answer inquiries and provide feedback, research policies and information in order to make judgment calls, work with unique transactions or processes and create policies as needed. The Assistant Director participates in planning and management meetings with staff at all levels in the WSU Foundation, and WSU colleges and units.


Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a field related to the functional managerial area which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Additional Requirements:

  • At least three years of full-time experience working in a higher education, fundraising, processing role; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

  • Strong analytical and typing skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cash handling and extensive experience working in a fundraising environment with alumni/donor records, IRS rules, CASE guidelines, is preferred.

Associate Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence Recently Announced

Dr. Lisa Guerrero was recently named associate vice provost for inclusive excellence. Guerrero has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion since joining the WSU faculty in 2004. She is currently a professor of Comparative Ethnic Studies in WSU’s School of Languages, Cultures, and Race. She will maintain her faculty position, while serving as associate vice provost in a half-time appointment.

Dr. Guerrero will provide leadership to academic affairs in implementing WSU’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. She will help to identify and implement best practices and evidence-based approaches in faculty hiring, tenure and promotion, research support, faculty retention, teaching and mentoring, and curriculum planning. One of her first areas of responsibility will be to oversee the Racism and Social Inequality in the Americas faculty cluster hire program for Fall 2021.
