Under the general guidance of the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration, the Financial Analyst works to provide data-driven analytics solutions and reporting for the School of Business. The Analyst proactively analyses the financial performance of academic programs, departments and/or courses and provides real-time feedback and recommendations in order to increase profitability. The Analyst drafts and disseminates financial reports to internal stakeholders as well as works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean to proactively identify financial trends and address potential issues. The Analyst updates and maintains School of Business datasets held within numerous platforms, regularly completes comprehensive data review to identify anomalies and trends, audits information to detect remediation needs and manages compensation-related contracts and letters as well as the associated fiscal entries into the Universities enterprise management system. The Analyst regularly collaborates with cross-functional project teams to deliver high quality information that will result in actionable business decision-making capability and will promote in-depth understanding of nuances in data. These solutions may include formatted reports, datasets, dashboards, new measures and key performance indicators, spreadsheets and other data analytics solutions as necessary to meet business needs. The Analyst will manage all information with confidentiality and proactively provide informed, creative solutions to problems. The Analyst is required to have a general working knowledge of the university and a comprehensive, on-going understanding of the School of Business operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Creates analytical reports to support school leadership and key stakeholders in making data driven decisions
- Works with task forces, working groups, etc. to provide appropriate data and analytics to make informed decisions
- Reviews data sets, identifies trends and creates projections and forecasts
- Assists in creating projected year-end financial reports
- Crafts annual budgets and proformas based on data-informed scenario planning
- Conducts budget to actual audits to identify areas requiring remediation including but not limited to non-discretionary position-based lines, discretionary budget categories, etc.
- Communicates research findings to appropriate internal and external audiences through memos, reports, as well as dashboards, charts, tables, other data visualization aids • Identifies new measurements and key performance indicators and regularly updates school leadership on this information
- Conducts qualitative and quantitative research to inform, support, and assess new program development
- Provides extensive financial analysis of all academic programs offered by the School of Business including those at the bachelors, masters and certificate levels
- Is the lead user for the school’s program economics platform
- Proactively analyzes academic program, department and/or course-level profitability
- Works collaboratively with the Marketing and Recruiting department when reviewing existing academic programs for financial viability as well as prospective ones
- Crafts data-informed strategic recommendations in order to increase efficiencies and overall unit profitability
- Collects, manages and analyzes large and diverse data from multiple datasets, including internally maintained, FERPA-regulated datasets and administrative datasets. Such datasets can include but are not limited to instructional costs, faculty compensation, course offerings, course/program enrollments, discount rates by course/program, departmental budgets, departmental spending, personnel distribution lists, etc.
- Collects data from primary and secondary data sources, including online databases and surveys
- Leads data mining, data manipulation, data cleansing, record matching, table linking, table structures, and importing and exporting data for project-based needs
- Is the liaison to the Finance Office for yearly updates to the program economics system by verifying data before upload as well as providing guidance on school-specific expenses and overhead, including how they should be classified within the system
- Verifies the accuracy and completeness of data for analysis
- Inputs financial data and requests into WorkDay for compensation topics including but not limited to stipends, by-course instructional contracts, temporary increases in pay, etc.
- Works with institutional stakeholders to identify and meet data-related needs
- Identifies ways to improve data-related processes and practices
- Maintains and reviews data within the various University enterprise systems and creates remediation plans should data discrepancies arise
- Researches, creates and disseminates monthly and quarterly financial updates and reports to internal constituents and stakeholders including but not limited to department leaders, faculty chairs and Associate Deans
- Provides assistance in year-end fiscal reporting by creating and issuing year-end reports to internal constituents
- Manages and updates all financial record keeping systems, electronic and physical, for the Finance and Administration department
Instructional Contract and Stipend Administration
- Ensures signature authority policies are adhered to
- Drafts all instructional contracts and tenure letters ensuring content accuracy
- Implements the approval process of all faculty contracts and letters, full-time and part-time, through DocuSign
- Drafts and issues all faculty administrative assignment letters through DocuSign
- Centralizes all stipend requests for the School by collecting, reviewing and routing for approval via DocuSign
- Inputs associated payroll-related data and requests into WorkDay for compensation topics including but not limited to instructional contracts, stipends, temporary pay increases, etc.
- Handles contract details with confidentiality and diplomacy
- Provides training to applicable university personnel regarding program economics platforms as well as advises on best practices
- Reviews information with discretion and diplomacy in the strictest of confidentiality
- Communicates extensively with Assistant Dean, faculty, staff and as needed, other campus colleagues and constituents.
- Works collaboratively with other Finance and Administration department employees
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with preference given to Business, Business Analytics, Data Analytics and/or related field of study
• 5 years of experience in a data research, statistical, or analytical research related field
Preferred Qualifications:• Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Business Analytics, Data Analytics or related field of study
• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a data research, statistical, or analytical research related field
• Experience working in a higher education setting
• Proven ability to collaborate with individuals of diverse backgrounds
