The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) acts as one of the principal liaisons between the UVA Physicians Group (UPG), UVA Health entities and the University of Virginia to develop, maintain and monitor administrative operations to meet the goals of UPG. The CAO has executive responsibility over Human Resources, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Employee Wellness, Continuous Improvement, Project Management, Billing Quality and Education, Internal Audit, Third Party Contracting, Provider Enrollment and Facilities Development and Maintenance. The CAO will be responsible for managing, developing and implementing efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of UPG and to ensure continuous improvement in all areas of operational performance. This position works collaboratively as part of an Executive Team to promote shared ownership of UPG’s effectiveness and to build mutual accountability across the organization. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate servant leadership, strategic partnership, skillful communication, staff development, and cross-functional collaboration.
Maintains collaborative and cooperative relationships across UVA Health entities and the University.
Provides executive oversight over the Human Resources, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Employee Wellness, Continuous Improvement, Project Management Offices, Billing Quality and Education, HIPAA Privacy, Internal Audit, Third Party Contracting, Provider Enrollment and Facilities Development and Maintenance.
Understands and adheres to UPG’s compliance standards as they appear in UPG’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Prepares special reports, statistics, and data analysis as required by the CEO.
Initiates and facilitates projects within UPG and across UVA Health.
Supports the Facilities Manager and facilitates the development and implementation of the facilities development, maintenance and emergency preparedness.
Supports and champions Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion and Wellness initiatives at UPG that help drive employee engagement and cultivate a diverse and inclusive, people-first culture.
Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement and directs the implementation of changes.
Serves as UPG representative on institutional committees as directed by the CEO.
Provides support to UVA Health strategic initiatives as requested by the Executive Vice President of Health Affairs.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
Completes other projects and tasks as requested by the Boards and/or CEO.
Education: Masters degree required, MHA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in operations management, preferably as a CAO or COO, overseeing daily operations.
- Related experience in a healthcare organization or exposure to healthcare issues required.
- Solid understanding of LEAN and business functions including HR, IT, and Project Management.
- Experience leading, developing and engaging cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of governmental and healthcare regulations and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver summarized reports and action plans in a succinct format.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems and applications.
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
