Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado, College of Nursing, is seeking a Dental Care I for a full-time, (1.0 FTE) benefits-eligible position at Sheridan Health Services (SHS), a Federally Qualified Health Center located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). This position will provide quality oral health care to patients at the community clinic site.

Clinic Description:

Sheridan Health Services is a multi-site, nurse-managed federally qualified community health center, funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration Bureau of Primary Healthcare; and is a collaborative effort between the College of Nursing and the Sheridan School District. There are now ~45 employees at two convenient locations to serve community health needs primarily for residents of Arapahoe, Denver and Jefferson counties.  A Youth Health Clinic is located in the Sheridan School District Administration building. The Family Health Clinic is located in southwest Denver on the Fort Logan campus and provides services to adults and children, 65% of whom identify at Latinx, and 42% of whom are best served in another language, with Spanish being the predominant second language.  Services offered include primary care across the lifespan; prenatal and postpartum, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance abuse treatment.  Sheridan Health Services is a Patient-Centered Medical Home, and as such we uphold a model of care that places the patient at the center, incorporating the values and beliefs of the patient in all decision-making. We extend the reach of the clinic through public health outreach where nursing students provide community outreach, health education, and home visitation services.

Supervision Received:

Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Dental Program Director, and under the general direction and authority of the CEO of Sheridan Health Services.

Examples of Work Performed:

    Assists dentist, dental hygienists, and dental care II positions during a variety of treatment procedures.Speaks Spanish and English on a daily basis, communicating clinical terminology to patients and colleagues.
  • Teaches graduate students in all specialized areas of four-handed dentistry which includes, but not limited to, surgical, periodontal, restorative, and all other related procedures.  Patient preparation and positioning; clinical area preparation for the treatment of patients.
  • Prepares specialized instruments set-ups for faculty, residents, and graduate students to be used during dental patient treatment. Inspects appropriate instruments/tools for good condition/working order. Performs appropriate aseptic and sterilization techniques.
  • Performs dental intraoral and extraoral radiographs using appropriate technique, x-ray equipment and safety equipment.  Develops, mounts and identifies radiographic films. Troubleshoots the scanner to make sure films are being developed with high quality.
  • Performs routine clerical work in support of clinic such as:Electronic Health Record input/scheduling, data reporting and other duties as assigned.
  • Answers phone calls and schedules appointments for both clinic locations
  • Collects payments from patients for services provided and makes change where neededReconciles change bank daily and submits daily deposit and deposit reconciliation reportObtains pre-authorizations for insurance companiesAids with preparation of claims for insurance payersEnsures strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures.
Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position has been established at: $41,600.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

    Graduate from an accredited dental assistant training program. 
Substitution: One year of dental care experience may substitute for graduation from an accredited dental assistant training program.

Conditions of employment:

    Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.Must be willing and able to speak Spanish and English on a daily basis to communicate clinical terminology.Must be willing and able to remain credentialed and ensure credentialing materials stay current.Must be willing and able to work weekends as needed for promotional events.Must be willing and able to work in patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
