SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The External Relations Coordinator is a member of the Division of Marketing and Communications. An organized and detail-oriented person who can assist in carrying out strategies for external affairs including the development of press releases and managing media relations.
**Note: this is currently a part-time summer position - approximately 13 hours per week.**
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
MEDIA
- Manage media relations for the College by developing and maintaining a positive public image for the College.
- Maintain constant contact with the Director of Government and External Relations and the Vice President of Marketing and Communications in matters relating to news media - public statements and public relations activities, when representing the College.
- Prepare news releases and other written communications and provide appropriate responses to media inquiries.
- Distribute news and event releases to local, regional, and national media.
WRITING
- This position will write and edit news releases and other communications which describe and highlight College programs and activities including educational opportunities, accomplishments that promote our strategic priorities.
- Coordinate photo and/or video shoots required to support promotion of news.
- Monitor and update content on web that is related to external audiences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree
- Minimum of one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, preferably with media relationsÂ
- Experience communicating complex issues in clear and straightforward terms
- Demonstrated clear, precise and compelling writing skills
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED:
- Ability to effectively reflect and convey the character of the College
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to exhibit good judgment in making decisions concurrent with College policy
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with constituents, both internal and external to the CollegeÂ
- Excellent project management, writing, and strong communication skills required
- Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time and occasionally walking and standing
- Climbing, walking, crouching, repetitive motions, and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues. Â
- Occasional hours outside the normal College work day.
