Centralia College is located on a 30-acre campus in the heart of Centralia, Washington and has been serving students in the Lewis County region since 1925. As a comprehensive community college, Centralia College offers academic transfer and workforce programs, as well as adult basic education, ELL, and personal enrichment classes. The college also offers four Bachelor of Applied Science degrees: Information Technology - Application Development, Diesel Technology, Applied Management (Business), and Teacher Education.
In addition to the main campus in Centralia, Centralia College East in Morton is a smaller site that serves the needs of students in east Lewis County. Since the college is committed to the success of all students, Centralia College also provides educational programs at two corrections centers in southwest Washington - Garrett Heyns Education Center located in Shelton, Washington and Cedar Creek Corrections Center located in Littlerock, Washington. In total, the college serves more than 7,000 students annually. Centralia College seeks a librarian candidate for this tenure-track faculty position. This position provides reference services, in person and online, to all library patrons and is responsible for the design, delivery, and assessment of information literacy instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Deliver learner-centered reference, instruction, and information services to diverse students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Design, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction utilizing a variety of delivery modes for face-to-face and online instruction in collaboration with library and departmental faculty.
- Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing with various stakeholders on campus and in the community.
- Develop online learning resources and be fluent in using and applying current and emerging educational technology in an academic setting.
- Facilitate collection development, new technology, and curricular support for liaison areas including select bachelor-level (BAS) programs.
- Assist with library collection development, which includes working with faculty and staff, conducting assessments, and selecting and weeding materials within assigned discipline areas.
- Engage faculty and support implementation of a program of information literacy across all curricula through instruction sessions, workshops, and other modes.
- Compile, analyze, and report library instruction data.
- Apply and evaluate existing and new assessment approaches to inform evidence-based instruction and library services in accordance with accreditation standards.
- Contribute to support and adoption of open education resources campus-wide.
- Contribute to a sharing and collegial environment through active engagement in the college’s academic community and participate in shared collegial decision-making and planning through service on campus-wide committees as assigned.
- Infuses equity, diversity, and inclusion into instruction and library services in support of culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Work effectively with diverse populations.
- Maintain current awareness of professional practice and demonstrate commitment to personal career development activities via participating with local, state, regional, and national library organizations.
- Master’s degree in library and/or information science (or its equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library program.
- Experience with developing and delivering information literacy instruction, with demonstrated knowledge of active learning approaches and outcomes assessment in an academic setting.
- Experience delivering user support of library specific technology applications.
- Experience developing, implementing, and assessing information literacy instruction and other library services and initiatives.
- Familiarity with issues in open education, open textbooks, open access, copyright, and intellectual property.
- Experience with project management.
- Ability to apply user-centered assessment methods to measure and understand user needs in order to develop services and initiatives to meet their needs.
- Ability to use and adapt to a range of library and education technologies, including web-based publishing, presentation tools, and various media types.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accept, manage, and incorporate change and a willingness to experiment with various models for best meeting the needs of our students.
- High level of digital literacy, including ability to adapt to new technologies.
- Understanding the mission and goals of Centralia College.
Conditions of Employment
This is a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment with employment expected to begin Fall 2021, subject to state legislative funding. The State of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for all state employees.
