Occupational Therapy Faculty

Job description

The College of Nursing and Health Professions (CONHP) at Valparaiso University invites applications for a faculty position in the Occupational Therapy program.  Valparaiso University (“Valpo”), a community of learning grounded in the Lutheran tradition of scholarship, freedom, and faith, prepares students to lead and serve both church and society.  Located one hour southeast of Chicago on a 310-acre campus, Valpo is a comprehensive university with an enrollment of over 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students.  Valpo is consistently recognized as one of the best private universities in the Midwest and is located in Valparaiso, Indiana, a county seat of 30,000 residents with high quality schools and an active social community.

This position is a full time, 9 month non-tenure track appointment, beginning October 15, 2021. Occupational Therapy faculty are responsible for the delivery of the educational content of the OT program, academic advising, mentoring, and course development and assessment.  Additional responsibilities will include working collaboratively with faculty within the College and university; providing service to the university, profession, and the practice community; and developing a research and scholarly agenda of contributions to the field.  This position requires significant contact with students, outside constituents, professional consortiums, and other OT faculty so interdisciplinary collaboration is expected and required.   Faculty report directly to the OTD Program Director.

Candidates should be interested in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education in the Lutheran tradition. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds.  Candidates must currently have or be eligible for Indiana state licensure as an occupational therapist with all licenses in good standing.  Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience as a registered occupational therapist (OTR) and a terminal degree.  In addition to strong academic qualifications and excellence in teaching, the University highly values experience in working across cultural and other significant differences.  The College of Nursing and Health Professions has programs in nursing (BSN, MSN, and DNP), health care leadership (BSHCL), health administration (MHA), public health (BSPH and MPH), physician assistant studies (BSHS and MPA), and occupational therapy (DrOT, OTD).

As a campus with an increasingly diverse student body, we encourage applications from individuals with a commitment to mentoring students from underrepresented communities.  Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, teaching statement, evidence of teaching effectiveness and contact information for three references to Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/86799. In your cover letter, please include brief statements of (a) how you might contribute to the university’s distinctive mission, and (b) what experiences you have had which will enable you to mentor a diverse student body.  Candidates who submit names of references should expect that the search committee will contact these references, in confidence, and that credentials will be confirmed prior to hire.  Employment will require a satisfactory criminal background check.  For specific questions or additional information about the search, contact Dr. Amanda Scott at [email protected] or 219.464.6174.
