Technical Assistant - School of Music

Regular Full-time, Market Range 06

This position will supervise the use of music technology (e.g., audio and video recording equipment) and software, train faculty and students in the use of music technology, and oversee and advise on updating or repairing current inventory.  This person will also coordinate with large ensemble conductors to provide logistical and operational support relative to rehearsals, concerts, festivals and other special events and work with the choral area in logistical and operational support.

 

Responsibilities include:

Music Technology Specialist:

Manage all technical aspects of student and faculty music technology needs and serve as the point of contact for the unit for equipment and technical support.

Maintain functionality, coordinate use, and oversee inventory of music technology equipment. The current equipment includes cameras, consoles, microphones, recording and mixing hardware, computer software/hardware and systems, etc.   Contract for repair and installation services as needed.  Stay apprised of technology trends in the music field.

Work with faculty, administrators and the Technology Committee in formulating an annual purchase plan to update technology needs for the SOM. Examples include purchasing faculty and staff hardware and assisting with the annual student Technology Fee proposal.

Create a long-term technology plan for the unit.

Train faculty (when requested) and student personnel in proper professional audio and video recording techniques, skills, and systems and other technologies, as needed.

Oversee student workers who provide support for technology needs.

Responsible for procuring all supplies related to music technology.

Complete an annual SOM music technology equipment inventory. 

Work with Auditoria Coordinator, as needed, to assure School of Music events that utilize music technology are successful.

 

Large Ensemble Coordinator:

Support large ensemble conductors with logistical and operational support relative to rehearsals, concerts, festivals and other special events, including gathering equipment and coordinating the transportation and set-up of instruments (on- and off-campus).

Maintain and update electronic records of instrument inventories.

Coordinate the repair of school-owned instruments, as needed.

Work with Auditoria Coordinator, as needed, to assure events are successful.

 

Choral Area Assistant:

Maintain inventory of all uniforms (tuxes, dresses, blazers) and record rental payments & distribution of uniforms.

Send uniforms out for yearly cleaning and re-inventory upon return, tagging with sizes, etc. 

Maintain office supplies and copier maintenance for the area.

Schedule transportation and hotels, as needed, for domestic travel.

Receive and catalog all incoming music and add to Choral Library database.



Qualifications
Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma required and at least one year of experience working in audio/video media. Preferred: Associate's degree in recording or related field.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to multi-task, and experience in dealing with a wide-range of people.

Knowledge of music technology equipment, software and techniques.

Knowledge and use of databases and Microsoft office (word, excel, etc.).

Ability to create and meet deadlines.

Prior success in jobs that required attention to detail and organizational skills.

Awareness to stay updated and learn new technologies and software, as needed.

Preferred: A background in music or a related field, prior music technology teaching and the ability to work within a budget is preferred.
