GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge base in their discipline and teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Primary duties will include instructing students in courses and communicating with department staff, students, and other faculty.

Under minimal supervision, the instructor is responsible for fostering student learning in the areas of medical assisting and general health courses for the Allied Health Department. Must implement and evaluate instruction and report student achievement in assigned courses in accordance with department, division and college policies and procedures. Teaching responsibilities include lecture, laboratory and clinical settings. Must be responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of an individual Professional Preparation Plan as outlined in the College’s Quality Faculty Plan and current licensure in a health field.

  • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Regular and consistent attendance at work.Demonstrate sound comprehension of the role of the Medical Assistant and be able to effectively role model and teach that role.Create and utilize instructional plans to effectively organize and teach course work in accordance with syllabi.Faculty will direct and assess student progress in achieving theory (content: cognitive) and performance (competencies: psychomotor and affective) requirements of the program.Evaluate and report student performance and progress.Collaborate with the program director in managing all aspects and accreditation of Medical Assisting program.Regularly engage in professional development activities and actively seek information about developing trends and ideas.Perform related duties as assigned.

    Be knowledgeable in the course content; effective in directing and evaluating student learning, lab performances, and practicum experiences.Demonstrate the ability to be accepting and willing to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.Manage a classroom setting in a way or manner that is acceptable and consistent with department and College objectives, guidelines, policies and practices.Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and the general public.Read, understand, and express oneself clearly and effectively in oral and written form.Possess strong human relations skills. Get along with diverse personalities.

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

    Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a classroom/laboratory/fieldwork setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, standing, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of close visual work. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly the fingertips. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds occasionally (10-33%). Will travel to other on-campus facilities, off-campus facilities and agencies to teach, attend meetings, etc.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience in an ambulatory care setting
  • Must be able to demonstrate all technical skills required of students.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

    Experience teaching at the college level.Demonstrated commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.Demonstrated success in working collaboratively.Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.Outstanding written and oral communication skills.AAS in Medical Assisting or another health care related field.Certified Medical Assistant.
