Position Description:This position provides clinical services in the Department of Psychiatry which may include working with individuals with mental health and addiction needs. Clinical Therapist will be responsible for providing direct clinical services in an outpatient mental health setting, completing documentation and billing for services, and will occur in both in an individual and group setting.
Qualifications:Education/Experience/Licensing (minimum requirements):
· Active State of Ohio License as a Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor required. · Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology preferred. · Previous experience providing psychological or closely related diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients required. · Knowledge and experience of Ohio Department of Mental Health (ODMH) and The Joint Commission Behavioral Health standards preferred. · Knowledge of community resources a plus. Knowledge of Medicaid billing procedures a plus. Communication and Other Skills: · Demonstrates clinical competency in caring for patients as identified in Scope of Care for specific services provided. · Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in the following stages of the life cycle. · Establishes relationships and networks across a broad range of people and groups, including physicians relative to patient care issues. · Maintains high level of ethical standards. · Protects privacy and confidentiality, handles highly sensitive material. · Effective program and care coordination skills. · Shares information, observations and conclusions clearly and promptly. · Utilizes effective communication to provide excellent communication services. · Must receive training for or education in the following areas and demonstrate prior to or within ninety days, competency of basic mental health, which shall include, at a minimum the following: 1. An understanding of mental illness, psychiatric symptoms and impact on functioning and behavior; 2. How to therapeutically engage a mentally ill person; 3. Concepts of recovery/resiliency; 4. Crisis response procedures; 5. An understanding of the community mental health system; 6. De-escalation techniques and understanding how his/her behavior can impact the behavior of individuals with mental illness’ 7. Any other competencies established as appropriate based upon the mental health services and activities to be performed, characteristics and needs of the persons to be served, and skills appropriate to the position.Working Conditions:Must be able to work flexible hours, shifts, holidays and weekends.Must be able to work effectively both with internal and external customers in stressful situations.Must be able to tolerate busy office environment that requires constant interaction with patients, employees, students, residents, and clinicians.Will be exposed to individuals who may display erratic behavior and must be able to utilize appropriate crisis training.May be exposed to communicable diseases and/or body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment on a daily basis.The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification.
