Job Description:

 

The Director of Program and Theme Houses is responsible for bringing a relational, strategic, and coordinated approach to the administration and management of a residential area of 1700 students. Includes the development of the living-learning experience for upper-division students in programmatic and themed housing including leadership, strategic planning, management, administrative and fiscal oversight of $75K budget; sets short and long-term goals and priorities, and establishes implementation strategies. Directly supervises Assistant Director and four live-in professional staff (who in turn oversee 15 student staff each). The Director collaborates with other Campus Life and University departments to provide programs and services, to develop and implement policies within a student development framework, and to respond to student emergencies.

 

As an educator and active collaborator within the division of Campus Life, the Director works closely with colleagues in Residential Life and in other Campus Life offices to deliver an intentional co-curricular living-learning environment in the undergraduate residences that is aligned with Brown’s Liberal Learning Goals for its Open Curriculum and autonomous, self-directed, and critically-conscious students. The Director will accomplish these outcomes by building and leading a dynamic and engaged professional and student staff team whose practice is innovative, centers social justice, and partners actively with students and colleagues. The Director contributes to the oversight and implementation of the University’s after-hours on call system and collaborates with a wide range of colleagues to respond to student emergencies.

 

Job Qualifications:

 

Master's degree required.

 

Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible related experience in higher education or related field. Experience providing leadership within a complex educational operation.

 

Demonstrated success in personnel and fiscal management, including the ability to manage a departmental budget, and to hire, cultivate and retain outstanding talent.

 

Demonstrated success working in a diverse environment with a critical understanding of social justice issues. Demonstrated experience developing systems and structures that center justice and equity.

 

Evidence of success creating and leading programs for students in themed, programmatic, or living-learning communities.

 

Evidence of creative strategic thinking and proven ability to work in a dynamic environment, to facilitate organizational change, adjust priorities, collaborate with partners, and improve organizational performance.

 

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, diplomacy and discretion.

 

Demonstrated leadership in a complex organizational structure; ability to work within and across  

 

a leadership cohort to build alignment around shared values and outcomes.

 

Agility and familiarity with latest software, database systems, computer literacy.

 

Strong commitment to supporting the University's goal of cultivating a diverse and inclusive community.
