General Summary

The Department of Marketing in the College of Business anticipates the hiring of three new graduate research assistants for the Fall 2021 semester. Successful candidates must be prepared and qualified to assist departmental faculty in conducting research in one of the academic specialties of the department. Specifically, students in the MBA or IMC Masters with a focus in marketing, advertising, supply chain management, or international business or closely related area only should apply.

Applicants should create an application in NEOGOV and upload a current CV. Applications will be screened by the Department Faculty research and personnel committees who will provide recommendations as input to the Department Head.

The Research Graduate Assistant receives a stipend and a tax-exempt tuition waiver.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the department head as needed in conducting research including administering online survey research, literature reviews, data entry, database editing, including contact scheduling and follow-up, statistical analysis, editing/proofing, formatting bibliographies, and other research related activities in support of department initiatives. When not occupied with a specific department head project or deadline, this position is available to support other departmental faculty research initiatives.

Assist in conducting research including literature reviews, data entry, statistical analysis, editing/proofing, formatting bibliographies, and other research related activities. Graduate Assistants may copy material at the EMU library using the department copy card.

Assist in research-related teaching duties (e.g., finding cases or articles to distribute) under the supervision of the professor. Take and pick up objective (computer scored) exams to/from the computer center. Monitor/administer make-up exams. (We ask that professors schedule make up exams on Friday or by appointment and these are conducted in the Marketing Conference Room, another available conference room or classroom.) GAs in this position may also assist faculty in the design and deployment of research-based pedagogical programs, such as new course design, online course development, moving existing course material into online course management systems, and/or workshops for academic and general audience consumption.

Assist with COB or department activities as requested by department faculty (including but not limited to such activities as preparation of materials for departmental meetings, providing staff support to Advisory Boards or committees in Supply Chain Management, IMC, and IB, the production of departmental newsletters, and supporting data needs to the Finance, Scheduling, and Curriculum Committees).

Perform additional duties as requested by the Department Head, such as covering the office (only when student workers/Secretary are absent), greeting visitors, and supporting departmental events as required.

Qualifications

Ability to work up to 20 hours per week is required.

GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.

Admission and enrollment in a graduate program is required.

Maintenance of a 67% course completion is required.

For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.
