Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Digital Media Commons supports the 21st Century learning and curriculum goals of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the University Libraries by providing the space, technology, resources, services, and expertise to support the digital creation of multimedia projects. DMC staff helps patrons identify and locate the right information, materials, images, and other resources they will need and provides the facilities and expertise to screen and edit films and other media and to practice presentations and collaborate. The DMC is a collaborative space with Undergraduate Studies’ Digital Acts Studio which provides consultations to improve the aesthetic and persuasive quality of multimedia projects. The DMC /DACTs work with faculty to develop and assess multimedia projects, provide instructional sessions for classes and offer one-on-one consultations to all UNCG patrons.

Position Summary:

  • Lead the Digital Media Commons program and service development, facilities, technologies, and training, in consultation with the Library, and key campus personnel.
  • Manage the Digital Media Commons Department. Develop and implement policies and procedures.
  • Supervise three SHRA employees.
  • Develop, coordinate, and/or teach student workshops on media and technology literacy, and the use of the hardware, software, and other technologies available in the Media Commons.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of the Digital Acts Studio and other campus partners in planning efforts, formal and informal, to develop policies, procedures, and initiatives related to the Media Commons programs and services.
  • Work with faculty to implement media literacy into the curriculum and to develop and assess multimedia assignments.
  • Develop methods to assess the effectiveness of services and programs and conduct needs assessments for potential services and resources, in consultation with the Library’s assessment program.
  • Reports to the Interim Dean of the University Libraries.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s with at least three years of experience in video editing, Makerspace technology, and video and/or audio presentations.

  • Works with DMC staff to set departmental goals and objectives, establish policies and procedures, design workflows, and maintain internal controls, documentation, and accountability.
