The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position as a core faculty member of the Department of Periodontics, rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. We are seeking a Periodontist with content expertise in all areas of Periodontics and Implant Dentistry. Responsibilities will include Undergraduate and Graduate teaching in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining a productive scholarly agenda, providing service as required by the department, college or university and participation in faculty practice.
Teaching - 55%
Participate in teaching of dental students and periodontics residents.
Serve as Course Director, evaluate and revise courses for the purpose of insuring relevance, keeping courses up-to-date, and introducing technological innovations where appropriate and where possible.
Provide lecture support in pre-doctoral and post-doctoral programs as needed.
Clinical/Patient Care - 20%
Provide patient care in faculty practice (DFP) with and without learners present.
Scholarship - 20%
Conduct laboratory and/or clinical research, mentor or supervise resident research projects, write scholarly papers.
Service - 5%
Serve on DCG committees, AAP committees
DMD, DDS, or equivalent (e.g. BDA), a certificate from a CODA-accredited Advanced Education in Periodontics program
Other Required Qualifications
License to practice dentistry or teach from the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
1 year experience teaching in pre-doctoral periodontics clinic, experience conducting basic or clinical research, presentation of research and/or clinical results at national or international professional conference.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Board eligible or Board certified in the American Board of Periodontology.
Formal training in IV sedation
Evidence for significant scholarship and contribution to the field of periodontal research
Preferred Educational Qualifications
PhD degree in a biomedical sciences field
Laboratory experience with publications in microbiology and/or cellular immunology
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Competency in didactic and clinical teaching, mentorship of pre-doctoral dental students, ability to establish good rapport with patients and referring dentists, evidence for competency in laboratory and/or clinical research
In-depth knowledge of the etiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches to periodontal diseases, planning and rehabilitation of lost dentition in the esthetic and non-esthetic zones by conventional and osseointegration approaches
Advanced competency in the surgical and non-surgical clinical procedures required to practice contemporary clinical periodontics, as defined by American Academy of Periodontics and American Board of Periodontology
